you say this when the truth is there is a glaring problem with the binaries, which is that they do not support type 9 RTMPE handshakes. many websites including hulu now require this handshake and rtmpdump will fail.

Did you even care to read the post? in last para i have clearly mentioned the RTMPE 9 for being the reason for nonworking of rtmpdump on some websites. if a feature is not yet supported by software how it can be compilation problem?

This thread is about Channel4 4OD by the way. Ha!
I didn't say that these binaries work on Hulu or 4OD. These sites also may have switched to new handshake which is not yet supported by rtmpdump. The purpose of screenshots was to show that they are properly compiled and work on sites that doesn't force Flash 10 handshake.

OK so $1,000,000 question does anyone know when rtmpdump will work with 4OD and other sites using type 9 headers?
If it's such a problem then I'd expect all servers to move to this sooner (rather than later) to enforce/protect copyright and intellectual property rights etc.

it will work when someone writes the code for it to work. as far as i know right now no one is even working on it.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

hi kerry, i'll try to help dillan.
interesting to note that iTV player does stream in different qualities. well, at least 2 different bitrates: low quality and standard quality.

and i think that GetFLV catches 2 url's. But they are not labelled accordingly (i.e. the fields in the "Bitrate"-column are empty!).

So you must play your luck. One of the url's (both of which look identical!) will download the higher quality stream, the other one the lower quality stream.

This should be fixed in future versions of GetFLV.

Downloading from ITV/4OD/Youtube Shows - What we know so far

  • ITV/4OD have updated to a later version of Adobe and their "handshake" is now different, within the past 2 months.
  • GetFLV 9.0 or later works, but this is expensive, and out of many people's price range.
  • Replay Media Catcher can be updated to get BBC Iplayer RTMPE streams but nothing more.
  • Get-Flash-Videos works (http://code.google.com/p/get-flash-v.../detail?id=248) but needs Debian
  • The patch new updates use on RTMPDump is here (http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...ch/001328.html)
  • The rtmpdump update above seems to mention a file location (trunk/librtmp) Is anyone familiar with how to use this or even what Operating System this is for?

I'm looking to try and download this video as an example. http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/video/?Filter=233770

By snooping and using an old version of GetFLV I had lying around, the corresponding rtmpe url is:

rtmpe://cp72511.edgefcs.net:1935/ond...V1200_16X9.MP4

If anyone knows anything else or have managed to get it working, please let me know. Thank you very much!

Re: Downloading from ITV/4OD/Youtube Shows - What we know so far

The "handshake" is type 9 RTMPE handshake

The handshake is used with RTMPE streams. rtmpdump cannot handle sites that require a type 9 handshake, until someone makes a patch for it.

get-flash-videos relies on rtmpdump for RTMP streams, hence if rtmpdump does not work, then get-flash-videos is definitely not going to work.

the file you are referring to (handshake.h) is a source file. for it to be of use it has to be compiled into the rtmpdump program. i have instructions for windows here

http://svnpenn.blogspot.com/2011/03/rtmpdump.html

Finally, You have shown that you do not know about:
1. get-flash-videos
2. source code
3. compiling programs
4. programming in general

a more appropriate thread title would be "What I know so far" or "Hey guys how do I download from ITV"

Ok, thanks for replying Steven. I'm a secret fan of your blog by the way, you're very clever when it comes to techie stuff. I am unfortunately not gifted in the compiling.
