Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

I have version StreamTransport 1.0.2.2041 , and know 2 other people with that version and none of them can capture itv,5od,4od any more.... same problem with american sites using HSS, and they always worked in the past.

Version 1.0.2.2041 either errors out or completely locks up
Version 1.0.2.2171 plays everything but downloads nothing.

BBC iplayer can be captured on pretty much anything because its just secure, not rtmpe.

After some digging around i found a load of previous versions hosted on a site and tried a few of them, and still the same problem...

So i think im going to give up.. ive never got my head around the rtmpdump thing and having already forked out for Replay Media Catcher (rmc) 3 and 4 in the past i dont think ill try GetFLV.

thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions though....

Given that I'm a) on Windows and b) don't have the compilers and linkers is there a pre-built binary for RTMPDump v2.3 r563 availoable for download?

Thanks

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

@blazegmc
i think my own creative posts made it clear and are proof enough (even though i dont live in UK or Hongkong) that these days the only working tool to capture Hulu (see other thread for my screenshots), iTV, and Channel4 4od is GetFLV. I also verified that GFLV v8.9.9.9 was not able to download the 4od whereas in GFLV v9.0.0.0 this was fixed. (I use a WindowsXP machine by the way.).

rtmpdump is always a working alternative (but primarily meant for non-Windows users like nullacht, hyc, a. o.) and freeware. i have some minimal working knowledge, but i prefer my Replay Media Catcher 4, GetFLV, and other Windows tools.

Regarding pocket money.. i rather enjoy supporting the coders' work with some bucks (as a symbolic act) instead of paying 10pounds for admission to a night club or 5pounds for a pint beer. The next time you spend some money for your very personal needs, pleasure or hobby (be it a book, CD, DVD, or similar "Amazon item") - think that it could have gone directly to the paypal account of a software coder and generated some honest smile of true joy in his/her face

Buying great little software tools to make their coders smile .. i REALLY LIKE that idea. I just want to show them that i care and support. You know.. maintaining good vibes. And joy.

(ok, the price of GFLV is quite steep. yikes )
(( and there was no need to fork out for RMC. it's FREE with trialpay offers! ))

I've just spent 2 days trying to get rtmpdump working on Windows 7, XP, 2000 (server and workstation), 2003 (server and workstation) and Linux and 2.3 does NOT work at all! It seems to fail at the first response from the server.

For various reasons I cannot download and compile source code which leaves me using pre-compiled binaries.

nullacht reports that "v2.3 r563 works perfectly" but as yet I have been unable to find this version to test.

Looking at the StreamTransport website they say way 6 to 8 months for a fix! So I think it is fair to say this joins the ever growing ranks of abandonware.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

i have been using the regular v2.3 *.exe from the official download site, like you. Didnt work for me (and i am unwilling to do more rtmpdump testing. i hate that tool! And i have something much better: GetFLV ), as mentioned several times before.

During the 2 days of testing, instead of the testing you could have gone babysitting next door at your neighbour's and earned the pocket money to buy a Golden Version of GetFLV.

I guarantee you. Once you've tried GFLV on all those popular fancy sites (Hulu, Channel4, iTV, BBC iPlayer) and see how easy it is --GFLV doesnt crash anymore, but it sometimes freezes, or you have to reload the webpages or re-launch the application because GFLV doesnt catch the url's at the very first attempt. Eventually it does catch and download the url!-- you will never go back to trying rtmpdump.

I still test rtmpdump .. simply because i am a mod here, and i need to delete posts or users when they assert that rtmpdump downloads "perfect streams" and this assertion isnt true. So when people (other than me) begin to talk shit, i kick and delete their *ss. That's what a mod like me does. That's why i still fire up rtmpdump.exe once in a while.

I'm obviously being dense 'cos I have now tested these binaries on Windows 7 & XP and they both failed.

Not disheartened (much) I build myself a Linux machine running Unbuntu 9.10 and downloaded and compiles it all for myself.

The good news is that my compile of rtmpsrv seems to work and I get a command listed however when I run the command all fails.

Command output is:-
rtmpdump -z -r "rtmpe://ll.securestream.channel4.com:1935/a4174/e1/?ovpfv=1.1&e=1301926737&ip=86.15.177.88&h=1090be4b 47321f78516a77ed8519af39" -a "a4174/e1/?ovpfv=1.1&e=1301926737&ip=86.15.177.88&h=1090be4b 47321f78516a77ed8519af39" -f "LNX 10,2,153,1" -W "http://www.channel4.com/static/programmes/asset/flash/swf/4odplayer-4.85.2.swf" -p "http://www.channel4.com/programmes/river-cottage/4od#3140235" -C Z: -y "mp4:xcuassets/CH4_08_02_16_49763003001001_001.mp4?e=1301926737&i p=86.15.177.88&h=1090be4b47321f78516a77ed8519af39" -o CH4_08_02_16_49763003001001_001.flv

and running this fails on both Windows and Linux.

Any suggestions?

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

the command (created by your rtmpsrv.exe) looks really really good. perfect. Mine was not different.

Then we edit back the host file (127.0.0.0 local host).

Finally we run the command. And if even UK-people fail to run this perfect command line, then .. either the command is wrong or rtmpdump simply does not work with Channel4 anymore.

Congrats to installing Linux and compiling your own rtmpdump binaries!

srpenn82 is an experienced IT dude (with coding, Linux and PC experience, see his homepage). If he says that he's tested it and that it didnt work, then i believe him. If some other person (nullacht, o.ä.) says that it works, then i dont believe it unless i see 100% unambiguous proof or evidence.

There is no problem with compiled binaries. I am personally using these binaries on WinXP SP3. check screenshots below:

rtmpsrv for capturing url:

rtmpdump downloading rtmpe stream:

Many websites recently switched to Handshake 9 which is not yet implemented in rtmpdump so this may be the reason it's not working for the particular website you wanna download from.
