Iview is fine, napper errors at connection.
Other programs are fine.

Hi
I just came to post about The Men Who Made Us Thin ep 2 & saw Wahroonga Farm beat me to it.
I tried last night & today, it just starts up ok, says
Connecting....
INFO Connected...
then RTMPdump quits, leaving a 0kb file. It downloaded the subtitles though.
I'm using 22-02-2014 version (haven't tried an older one yet)
EDIT: just tried the 19-01-2014 version & it does the same thing. iviewnapper still runs after & i'm able to choose another program & it downloads fine, so it's just this episode for some reason.

just tried pt2 again & saw it come up with failed to find NetStream. or something similar, because the window closed slower than usual. Now the window closes too fast for me to see what the error was.
How can i set it so the window stays open when it's finished?

How can I get Ep2 of "The Men Who Made Us Thin"? Has anyone done so?
It will disappear quite soon.
I regret to inform you all that I will not be maintaining any Nappers projects from this day on.
Downloads will still be available for the foreseeable future on http://www.nappers.net.
It is time to pass the mantle onto the next generation of coders for these types of programs.
Thanks for all the feedback and help over the 5 or so years, as without you the users of the Nappers, these projects would not have been possible.

Well....Damn.
Came on to see if I had the latest batch, as was hoping to try the "old ep" trick, only to find that yes I do, so it doesn't work, and that mce has called it quits :'(
So before I say farewell, I got to ask, will you be making the source code to the nappers available so that those smarter than I can maintain and/or build upon the great work you've done (and perhaps we'll even get the batch up and running again)?
Thanks mce for all your work and dedication to this little group.

Unless the source for iViewNapper has been made available, is there any working alternative downloader now that the data format has changed?
The menu still loads, it just doesn't access the individual sections anymore. It is probably just a minor change, but enough to break Napper. :(

I think that iViewNapper accessed the ABC site to get the list of programs and the URL for where they are stored on their server, and the "Fetch" button simply completed the parameters for RTMPdump to go off and do the work.
Getting source code would really help.
The problem is that there are too many parameters that need to be offered to the program before it can download. I wish I had captured a screen dump of RTMPdump in action after iViewNapper had started it off fetching.
If someone else out there has something, that could help with which parameters to use. It should even be possible to just run RTMPdump from a command line if we knew the parameters to use. The URL can be found on the iView web page by looking in the page source.

Weird. Wonder if what happened was intentional, a beta update that got released too early, or if they never intended to change the data format in the first place.
Or maybe they saw a significant drop in iView usage since a lot of people were suddenly not 'using' it anymore.
...Now would be a good time to sniff Nappers traffic to see how it accesses the data.

Has anyone taken up IviewNapper? 20140222 has stopped working for me :( - looks like the site meta data format has changed:confused: .
It's a non-trivial exercise to analyze the intermediate metadata on a "system change", and turn that into code like the 'Napper uses. I did it myself prior to November last year but I'm not up to speed with the necessary changes that [*mce] has made since, due to time constraints, and that hasn't changed.
If iView is back to normal, and 'Napper works OK for the next 3-4 weeks, I will look at the 'metadata' and re-write my code in preparation for yet another iView change.
But no promises.

I just want to point out that since iViewNapper is a .NET program, the complete source code can be retrieved from the .exe file by using a free decompiler such as ILSpy (http://ilspy.net), or similar.
No need to get the source code from MCE!
gxdata
09-20-2014, 01:41 AM
It's a possibility to decompile, but much simpler if mce could make the code available.
I would be willing to make the upgrades - eg, the buffer for the catalogue encoding that the March 2014 version of SBSNapper handles has been exceeded in the last weeks (I haven't tried since late August), so an increase in that buffer value in code would allow the SBSNapper to handle today's available load.
(I do know that this is the iView thread, btw)

iviewnapper is still working ok for me (well it was last night)
sbsnapper has the json error
"Error during serialization or deserialization using the JSON JavaScriptSerializer. The length of the string exceeds the value set on the maxJsonLength property."
sbs napper was working fine 2 days ago (i often leave it open, so is this kind of thing onnly noticed when opening the program? like it won't affect it if it's already open)

As far as I know, leaving SBS Napper open means you are not reading the latest programme catalogue from the servers, you have what was read at SBS Napper startup. After a couple of days the data is going to be "stale" with new programmes missing and old programmes you still have listed in fact "taken down" and no longer available.
I did hear discussion a while back that SBS are lazy and in fact just remove stuff from the catalogue, but NOT from the server, and you can in fact retrieve "removed" programmes if you can craft (or have) an appropriate CURL query to issue :-)
Calvin.
BTW: Again apologies, I KNOW this is the iViewNapper thread, but I thought it best to respond where the comment was posted.

G'day folks,
iViewRipper is my attempt at making an alternative piece of software to iViewNapper. The interface is really fast & I have added some extra channels and a search tool. Otherwise it works in a very similar way to iViewNapper. It's brand new, i've only spent time over the past couple of weeks, so please bear with me ! I've uploaded a a BETA version that is basically stable but i'd love to hear people's feedback & ideas about this !

Had a quick look, and is certainly a prettier alternative, works well and loads the program list faster to boot.
A few things about the ui.
1. It's huge, it takes up 1.5+ times the width that iviewNapper does on my screen, and about 1.2 times the height.
2. The Exit button is not really necessary, or should be below the 'about' button (I can see accidental exits when trying to click 'panel', and maybe even 'educational' from where it currently sits rather than accidental wrong genre pick).
3 Don't like how categories are essentially split into 3 parts, with the channels on top, genres to the right, and overview (home) in the middle. If could be made to fit, shrink the buttons down and have all in single column, or more likely a double column on the right.
4. Were you to follow my opinions above, the search bar (great to have that BTW) would end up being 'orphaned') so assuming 'exit' moved to under 'about'/removed, and double columns with 'home' being moved to where the exit button currently is (more or less) then move the search bar to where home currently is, then eliminate as much unnecessary negative space, by reduction first, then stretching the elements to fit what cant be eliminated.
If interested I could do a diagram of what I mean (tried doing a mock up by editing a screenshot, but that was a total mess)

Definitely want to improve the UI & more than happy to listen to any suggestions/ideas. I'm sure with a bit of tweaking it could be heaps better. I'm glad you like the "maximize" feature and search features :)
Eventually I want to put progress monitors inside the UI for the rtmp process(es) that are spawned. Well I have quite a few ideas actually...
At this stage just glad to get it out there and hopefully build up a bit of a user-base - then I might start a webpage for it if people like the s/w.

It is certainly fast, and to my taste is a suitable size and has nice features. Excellent job!!:)
Maybe a few tweaks could be done..
This link (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/swaeikkgagibr5w/AAAVheFhbESa-iG_1lHQJy6Ha?dl=0)shows images of a version I wrote almost a year ago (27/11/2013), but the iView catalogue metadata overtook my time constraints due to some major personal changes, and it is very faulty now.
These are small images on Dropbox.
There are some configuration toggles (but not persisted to a settings file on disk), to save or not save captions, descriptions, series images, and a log file. Download rates, sizes, etc were saved into the log file and the description file had a little extra info, too (download rate & size, etc).
Also found I like to see some of the iView trailers, refresh the series catalogue, etc. I mused about multiple downloads, had versions that did that too. Checking for possibility of user DL the same show multi times held me back - but for my own use, of course I wouldn't do that ... ;)
Also possible with mine (when working) to rename some shows before the download began (all of the download set would be renamed). Checked for odd characters in filenames, etc of course.
Just a few ideas and UI ideas you may like to steal, or not. Also, I spent a bit of time on useability ("UX") - where buttons etc were placed, distance mouse had to travel, etc.
Just a pity it doesn't work any more!!!

hey M3M1E,
just a minor bug report, your dynamic "view episodes"/"download" button will not change if you double click the series list rather than click the button, which can be a bit confusing when you see "view episodes" when you're already viewing them expecting the "download" button.
That may be why mce went with the ubiquitous "fetch", rather than deal with dynamic buttons?

I had success with The Paradise S2 Ep7, thanks. But Noirhouse S2 Ep1 fails. (filtering out all the possible typos in iView metadata is a never-ending task).
(It seems the Whirlpool SBS thread is used de facto for iView)
Left you a PM here, yesterday, btw.
Will test the latest version of iViewRipper more fully later today, and report.
(For starters - observations, questions)
* I don't like the Open button. If a user wants to open the download folder, I suggest it is better done from a menu at the top of the form.
* Suggest that the Settings button is (likewise) more appropriate from a menu pulldown.
* Some buttons would benefit from ToolTips.
* The Download / View Episodes buttons are sometimes inappropriate (toggling flag problem?)
* I like to see the number of Series in a particular Category or filtered listview (eg, in News, or Latest)
* Is the list of Series seen when clicking the Home button and the iView button different, or the same?
* Does the Home button totally refresh the read of Catalog?
But Noirhouse S2 Ep1 fails.
I was contacted about this today.
There is a LineFeed character that needs stripping out of the filename.

You may need to install the .NET Framework 3.5 or later.
There is a free download of a small utility that you can run, which will tell you the version/versions of .NET that you have installed.

Hello, i'm new to this program called iviewripper that you
M3M1E have kindly coded, created and currently work on!
I'm using this program to try to DL some episodes of Maya The Bee, the new 3D animation series off of ABC Australia iView.
However when I try to download a episode using your program M3M1E, the rtmpdump command window opens but quickly closes without any time for me to read.
But I was able to get it to open, snapshot it and see that the problem i'm having is that i'm getting an "rtmp server sent error " and "rtmp server requested close" message.
I'm assuming it's because i'm not from Australia and you can't view the videos and that I need a good AU proxy? Or is it something else that I don't know that's causing the problem?
Anyways I would like some help on this if you can spare the time...that is all, thanks and see ya.
...Oh wait, there is one more thing that I like to ask.
Is it possible to get say...an episode/video off of iView that's currently not on the site?
I found this xml link to all the descriptions and whatnot of Maya The Bee here:
http://www.abc.net.au/xmlcontent/tv/guide/xmlengine/brands/maya-the-bee/data.xml
and notice that they're some filename path to an mp4 episode named like "kids/mayathebee_01_53.mp4". I feel that it may not be possible though because of reasons...like authentication or something but it's a question i'm pondering and asking y'all if it's possible to get any not currently on iView.
Alright that is all, thanks again and see ya later!

Downloaded iView .MP4 files seem to take a long long time to read into VLC Media Player v2.1.5.
Is it right that this is caused by the packaging and codec mismatch (ie, if the downloaded files were converted, it would be a quicker load and play)?
I don't want to do that really.
Or is there a better way, a better media player? I don't have the right codecs installed for Windows Media Player (v12 for Windows 7) to handle iView's flv-within-mp4.
blood.eaglz
02-02-2015, 12:12 AM
Just tried a file on VLC 2.1.4 and then on 2.1.5, loaded pretty much instantly, mind you I went with one of the smallest videos on iView so that may be a factor.
My go to player though is MPC-HC with the K-lite codec pack.
But since I use my remux bat scripts (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_sxEV7aVoj7cjJlNXhaVnY5M28/view?usp=sharing) by default, I've pretty much always ran proper mp4s, and it only takes between 2 and 10 seconds per video to do depending on the file size and what else is running.

Thanks for that information.
I've changed my system a lot in the last year or so, so I'm not sure what codecs I have installed. I did have a nice utility that scanned and reported what was there (can't recall what it was).
I may try the player you mentioned (Media Player Classic Home Cinema).
[edit]
Got the Win32 installer, but the mirrors won't give me the filters (assume that means the codec packages). I try later..
I will set up your script again, too. I think I have a utility to produce iPad-compatible formats too - somewhere. Not that I like to use iPad, ever.

Make sure you delete any zero length files that RMTPDUMP has created. I found when using it with Iviewnapper that a network error may cause a failure but subsequent download attends failed because of the existence of an empty file.

iViewRipper has a problem, I think caused by the images it attempts to load for each Series being in a different location.
The application (iViewRipper) will stall or be very slow to load and decipher the catalog information it needs to move from one series to another, then give the message (Not responding) on the very top of its windows. See attached image file.
I haven’t checked this out, but I suspect it has happened over the last 2-3 days, series by series, as the transitioning of images occurs on the iView servers.
Maybe I'm wrong. Comments?

Posted for courtneyk and Tombs from sbsNapper forum.
Reading the posts, those 2-3 individuals are having a similar problem. But using 'Napper not 'Ripper.
So it's probably a problem at the server? It's certainly been around more than a week so far.
I notice that a few Series do NOT have the problem I described, but the majority that I attempt (news, drama) seem to.
The Business is OK.
For what it's worth ..."me too". Ripper works erratically .. and when it does it takes from several up to 10mins to load the index and usually a similar delay navigating to an actual program or navigating to one of the submenus .. doco, drama, abc2 etc. IF I manage to get into the ep list for a particular show then the speed is as expected & no delays accessing any or more than one episode. In the meantime it sometimes greys out and says "not responding". Running Win7Pro 64bit .. and running the 64bit version of ripper. It seems more tolerant of the first few items in a submenu, keep scrolling down & it goes to sleep. Napper behaves the same, but less successfully. Loading the images does seem to be a clue here .. during the "sleep phase" it displays "images loading" or something like that in the image box.
Maybe a future update could have the option of disabling the download of the screengrab images for both series & episodes? I don't really need a screengrab to tell me what the show is after all.

(I've left the full quote here, for context)
The work-around when 'Ripper stalls is to wait until the Series image appears, or if it doesn't you will see (Not responding) on the top line of 'Ripper (to rhs of the gmail contact address), and the mouse icon will show the spinning thingo.
Click the X at top rhs of the 'Ripper application, and choose the top option (if there are 3, good; if only 2, then you will have to re-load 'Ripper).
Having said that, right now it's not too bad - and many of the Series pictures are appearing OK.

Hi guys !
Thanks for your recent comments and posts: BNW, gxdata, etc
It can still be slow to initially load up (I have a few ideas on how to fix that) but I think i've fixed the delay in navigating now, slow image thumbnails, etc. I reckon you should all try my latest version and see how that goes !!

M3M1E :D
Tried the latest version .. took several minutes to load up the index, but I was patient. I was able to navigate to the episode menus of at least 6 shows (which was 6 more than I was getting), all without forcing windows to restart the program. Sometimes it worked fairly quickly, other times "not responding" and whited out .. but I waited and it started up again by itself. Sometimes the screen-grabs for the shows showed up, other times they didn't. Personally I don't need them .. I can always google a screen-grab if I needed one. Managed to retrieve several episodes ... so it's working, even if glitchy as you noted. But glitchy is better than not at all. :) As an aside, sbsnapper is working fine at the moment.
Thanks muchly!! :)

My observations are that Napper and Ripper are exhibiting similar behaviour. There are times when navigation between shows and categories appear normal, and others where both programs go "out to lunch" for a long time before returning. If it is related to the thumbnails, I wonder if its something the Iview folks have done to the site that may be the issue. Perhaps some logic to prevent "long lunches" by returning from a thumbnail fetch if it is taking to long or not found.
Can we have an option to disable the thumbnail download? I'm not a thumbnail user, so it would be fine by me.

Yes - today and yesterday I have found the same (0-byte mp4), for most News, for Shaun Micallef, #TalkAboutIt, Capital Hill, Gardening Australia - it seems to have begun on 8 April.
I tried 'Ripper 1.02, 1.03 (64-bit only) and the latest 'Napper and unsurprisingly the same behaviour for each is observed.
Unrelated - I have so far (3 weeks absence) found no problems attributable to the series images. Am I right in thinking that 'Ripper v1.03 occasionally tells me that no image is available?
This seems to be a serious change.

Interestingly, WebDL from 26 March gets it right so any change must be subtle. Sadly, WebDL has its own set of problems with dropped frames at the moment but that's unrelated to the current problem with Napper/Ripper.

Ditto .. the latest version sometimes eventually decides for some reason of its own to forgo thumbnails .. and then it all works speedily. Or worked .. before the next issue showed up that others have noted.
And ditto re an option to turn off thumbnails .. and keep them off. Unlike the subtitles which seem to turn on every time it I run irip.
My observations are that Napper and Ripper are exhibiting similar behaviour. There are times when navigation between shows and categories appear normal, and others where both programs go "out to lunch" for a long time before returning. Over the past week or so I've found d/ls to be very erratic. Sometimes it works first try .. once irip managed to get to the episode I'm after .. as it is right now (Dr Who Confidential 1.10). Plays fine after d/l. Other times I need to repeatedly attempt a d/l with all sorts of different rtmpdump behaviours .. sometimes it hangs on 0%, a few times it gave a brief data burst, said 845% (yes 800-something %) and hung, other times got part way thru' and then hung (as in over 15mins - I was patient), or one of a bunch of rtmpdump error messages and then rtmpdump closes. Just tried midsummer murders 17.1 and it's ongoing with no issues.
One thing I did notice is that I seem to have a better success rate if I double click the episode to initiate the d/l rather than single click and then click the d/l button. Quirky, to say the least.
Actually it is working better for me today than it did on sat .. when I had to try 5 times to d/l something. Today (mon am), two trys, both immediate successes.
Maybe there's a bandwidth issue on the iview server which is causing the issue? I did notice back in the past that around the time a very popular show went up on iview than inap would hang on 0%, part way thru' .. or give one of the same error messages that I've been getting with irip recently. Wait 1/2 hour or so, try again .. and worked fine

It's hard to reconcile some of the above, probably because people are downloading shows that have been mounted pre-8April.
As a test, can you* try the series 'Compass', and download the episode broadcast on 2015-04-05 (it should succeed), and also the one broadcast on 2015-04-12 (it should fail)>
In my experience, almost everything mounted on iView on or after 8April will fail to download.
FYI when a 0-byte MP4 file results, I do delete it and try again. And I have tried napper/ripper downloader versions.

Yep, as I said previously, WebDL (http://delx.net.au/projects/webdl/) has no problem with this. Just confirmed with Apr12 Compass as requested.
I made an earlier comment about WebDL dropping frames on downloaded files. It's actually a known ffmpeg issue. WebDL pulls the video as a .ts and then calls ffmpeg to re-encode to .mp4. Disable the conversion in common.py and the .ts plays perfectly.
Like I said, I am using a pre-08Apr commit of WebDL and it's having no problems with post-08Apr content so the issue is clearly something very subtle which is tripping up napper/ripper but not WebDL. That said, I'm testing WebDL on a unix machine. Could this be down to silliness like something in the napper/ripper logic tripping over \r vs \r\n?
Alas seems so. I have managed to get items dated the 10th .. but tried a few dated 13th .. no go.

For what it's worth rtmpdump gives the error:
"netstream.play.StreamNotFound"
Or something very similar .. difficult to catch since it's on screen for less than 1s.

I haven't yet tried, and I'm not sure what debugging is implemented in either 'napper or 'ripper, but both can be put into debug mode.
But I suspect it's not much use unless the calling program (ripper/napper) tells rtmpdump to pass back or output is redirected (it's a while since I wrote downloader code, but I did that when testing for flaky downloads a couple of years ago).
Given you can start a dl and then close rip or nap and the dl will finish off, I suspect there's not much, if any, feedback from rtmpdump.

Hi folks, i've been looking at this today, but so far no joy =(
Not a simple fix i'm afraid (or at least not yet). I'm using wireshark and all kinds of tools to try and figure out what has changed...
I don't think it has anything to do with the auth token, or the fake .swf file, or the structure of the rtmp path, it's something else perhaps more sinister unfortunately. If anyone can shed any light that would be great cause i'm tearing my hair out !!
Sorry i'm not responding individually to everyone's msgs at the moment (especially on FB) i'm a bit under the pump until this is resolved !

As a side note, I can use Internet Download Manager to download the stream - even though it looks like I am getting a flv file, it's actually a mp4.
Here are the IDM download properties of The Checkout S03E01:

And here is the batch file that iviewnapper generates, but fails to get anything:
rtmpdump-win32-2.3r557.exe -r rtmp://cp53909.edgefcs.net////flash/playback/_definst_/checkout_03_01.mp4 -t rtmp://cp53909.edgefcs.net/ondemand?auth="daEdjaEbEcWamd.aRbKbvbId8bQbnckakce-bvltQ.-8-skl_rGznH&aifp=v001" -o "The Checkout Series 3 Episode 1.mp4" -W "http://www.abc.net.au/iview/images/iview.jpg"
Is it a possibility that the newer files are now being supplied by iviewmetered-vh.akamaihd.net ?
I hope this helps
Cheers, DMan

dman, how do you use Internet Download Manager to get an iView show?
I assume you need to go to the iView player, and that it can capture the show as it begins to play - not forcing you to wait while the 30 minutes or so is shown?
Just read a message from <anon> who send me a wireshark capture.
It shows that the metered stuff has now been 'Brightcoved' like the unmetered stuff was.
The URL is now like:
http://iviewmetered-vh.akamaihd.net/i/playback/_definst_/_video/drwhohuman_01_12_,650000,495000,205000,40755,.mp4. csmil/master.m3u8?hdnea=st=1429012222~exp=1429222712~acl =/*~hmac=580ec2d7e2eb206259163c526702cb42db0f9279e2b 62ec2b2d94f2293a07292
That will get the SMIL to the segments.
This is the same AdobeHDS that affects SBSOD.
Thanks <anon> for helping out.
[edit]
Oops, I see dman already posted similar. :)
Thanks dman.

So I just use my web browser, I use Firefox, but Chrome also works, and I go to the iview page, navigate to the program I want to watch and when the program starts playing a download button appears usually at the top right hand corner of the picture - I can then select the resolution I want to download it at, and off it goes. At that point, I stop the main display and usually the program then comes down at the full speed of my connection which is around 8-9Mbit.
IDM installs an extension in the browser which monitors download clicks and embedded media allowing you to download not only iview but streaming media content from most sources.
Cheers.

Simple downloading the unchangeable Samsung way.
The curl command returns 1, and otherwise does nothing. It doesn't display data, create a file, display an error message or anything else.
It does this pretty much instantly - about 20 mlliseconds. That's too quick. Looking at the exchange with wireshark, I see curl connecting, establishing the SSL connection, then a five or six hundred bytes are returned, no more. The the connection is terminated by curl.
Any ideas?
In the end I had to use this.
curl -k -H "Authorization:Basic ZmVlZHRlc3Q6YWJjMTIz" "https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/samsung/?keyword=0-Z"

I had a general look at
Never miss a moment : ABC iview

The Very start point
I had noticed Subtitles using IVIEW napper for Post april 12 - New Format would be downloaded with it.
Well Subtitles are now XML by the look of it.
Doctor Series 1 - 10 was one of these
ABC Doctor Series 1 10 Uses XML for Subtitles Beware
http://cdn.iview.abc.net.au/cc/drwhohuman_01_10.xml

ep.captions = 'http://iview.abc.net.au/cc/poldark_01_01.xml';
I tried

CDN is not required
They now have a standard format

Try as I might, I get only 100K - 150K of the asset listing. The first 100K comes almost immediately, then it gets way slower - after 10 minutes I now have 400K (less than 1/6 of the data, I estimate). Generally it fails eventually, with curl saying "transfer closed with outstanding read data remaining"
I can't see any curl options that would explain or mitigate this behaviour.
Once I have the asset descriptor, downloading it is no problem at all, but without the descriptor it's a tad difficult. Oddly, iview-gtk has no problem downloading the list, but the list is then inside iview-gtk, and no use to me. iview-cli cannot download the list, which I find even odder (unles iview-gtk is showing me a cached list, I suppose).
iview-gtk cannot actually download items though - whatever method it's using is failing, and has been since about April 10 for me. That's why I'm looking at alternative download methods.

Oh now this url is a very good one, its a straight up XML file like the "old days" so don't even need to use curl. :D
more ?
json m3u8 hls
curl "https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/fetch/?keyword=0-Z"
Now this one is not so well formatted, but as a m3u8 is essentially an unformatted unicode txt file, it too is easily viewed and could also be of use.

As at today adownloader appears in the same situation as iV#$wnapper and iV#$wripper - broken to latest uploads.
Micallef's post napper Ep9 and 10 download OK by pasting the browser url, as does Checkout 1, but Checkout 2 appears to fail at the m3u8 parse and hangs this app to the point an os restart is required to clear it.
It hard to know whether it is conspiracy or incompetence behind the iV#$w changes. Ie are they working hard to block downloads or are they just evolving/changing their streaming implementation without much testing.
As a precaution we should all be aware about providing too much info to this public forum in case the ABC developers are actively monitoring it. Specifically mention of still working download methods should be withheld.
The time taken for the app supporters (and the abc itself) to fix the iV#$w failure issues is way too slow - which could boost efforts by the abc to keep changing the implementation, as one strategy to deter downloads.
Certainly PC users are not as badly off as appliance owners. We still have fully working viewing and downloading solutions - as opposed to those owners of now unsupported hardware who find themselves abandoned.
Strategically we seem to be running the VCR recording of TV battle all over again. But this time we don't have the PAL broadcast format standard to limit technical counter measures.

Its been about 7 days since the iView updates were implemented. Pretty soon 'new' videos will start disappearing meaning there will be gaps in peoples collections unless there is a way to download (particularly for those of us on Windows who don't necessarily have access to the command line utilities of other OS).
Is there currently any way to download the newer videos that doesn't require 3 separate programs, or in-browser addons?
Also, where do I download ADownloader from? All I can find is information about a Torrent app for Android.

for windows you only need ffmpeg, and for ease notepad.
go to https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/sony/?keyword=0-Z in your browser and find the show you are after.
Copy the url between <assetUrl bitrate="650"> </assetUrl> tags and paste into notepad.
add this around url
fmpeg -i "URL goes HERE" -c copy -y x.mp4.
select all and copy to clipboard (you can change x.mpg to whatever so long as it has no spaces).
in the folder containing ffmpeg hold shift and right click an empty part of the folder and then click on "Open command window here" (this works in windows 7 and I'm pretty sure 8/8.1).
right click on the command window and click paste, hit enter and wait for your download to complete.
the silver lining for having to do it this way is that the videos are now remuxed on the fly so no need to do so after the fact anymore.
Hopefully either one of the programs will be updated or the old command line batch scripts to accommodate the new changes.

Sorry guys not a programmer but desperate like the rest since the change.
I noted when trying
https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/sony/?keyword=0-Z
1st time I tried the page seemed to stay blank. I then turned on java and tried again and the page loaded up. Saved to notepad, 1.81MB.
I then tried again with java off (cleared cache first) downloaded OK multiple times, same size. Java a furfy.
Following blood.eaglz post #1128, ffmpeg bombed out with some message HTTP error 404 not found
'a' not recognised as an internal or external command.
I was trying tonights 4corners. Used
ffmpeg -i https://abcsecurehttp-a.akamaihd.net/playback/_definst_/fourcorners_15_09_3003_rs.mp4?d=sony&a=541bd99f6d6fac8d8e2eb4112ecbe496 -c copy -y fourcorners-The_merchants_of_debt.mp4
Out of curiosity I tried just the url
https://abcsecurehttp-a.akamaihd.net/playback/_definst_/fourcorners_15_09_3003_rs.mp4?d=sony&a=541bd99f6d6fac8d8e2eb4112ecbe496
in my browser (firefox) and a file save window appeared. I saved the file, downloaded at 1MB/s, just a few minutes. It was a perfectly playable 215 MB mp4.
Tried the same with Injustice_01_05. Also OK. 210MB.
Both of these did not download with iViewNapper_20140222
Is this usable or is there an unaceptable resolution?
I tried a few other recent programs and it appeared to work.
Can someone else try this method?

Sorry guys not a programmer but desperate like the rest since the change.
I noted when trying
https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/sony/?keyword=0-Z
1st time I tried the page seemed to stay blank. I then turned on java and tried again and the page loaded up. Saved to notepad, 1.81MB.
I then tried again with java off (cleared cache first) downloaded OK multiple times, same size. Java a furfy.
Following blood.eaglz post #1128, ffmpeg bombed out with some message HTTP error 404 not found
'a' not recognised as an internal or external command.
I was trying tonights 4corners. Used
ffmpeg -i https://abcsecurehttp-a.akamaihd.net/playback/_definst_/fourcorners_15_09_3003_rs.mp4?d=sony&a=541bd99f6d6fac8d8e2eb4112ecbe496 -c copy -y fourcorners-The_merchants_of_debt.mp4
Out of curiosity I tried just the url
https://abcsecurehttp-a.akamaihd.net/playback/_definst_/fourcorners_15_09_3003_rs.mp4?d=sony&a=541bd99f6d6fac8d8e2eb4112ecbe496
in my browser (firefox) and a file save window appeared. I saved the file, downloaded at 1MB/s, just a few minutes. It was a perfectly playable 215 MB mp4.
Tried the same with Injustice_01_05. Also OK. 210MB.
Both of these did not download with iViewNapper_20140222
Is this usable or is there an unaceptable resolution?
I tried a few other recent programs and it appeared to work.
Can someone else try this method?
Good Luck.
You can try adownloader 17.3. It catches the mp4 and the hls ios's

I keep the manifest in Firefox and use the Find command (Ctl-F) to locate my favourite shows.
Then I use the right click 'Save Link as' command on the URL.
The files are already in mp4 format (checked using MediaInfo) so don't need any further processing.

Can anyone else who has successfully tried this confirm that java is needed? I don't have java installed and repeated attempts just give me variations of the following:
"XML Parsing Error: unclosed CDATA section
Location: https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/sony/?keyword=0-Z
Line Number 31468, Column 146: <assetUrl bitrate="650">https://abcsecurehttp-a.akamaihd.net/playback/_definst_/_video/70show_05_11_650000.mp4?d=sony&a=89a3b664317b71a
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"
And that's *ALL* after 5-10mins and the page being "fully loaded" according to FF. Tried IE .. same result.
Installed an old copy of the safari browser I had archived .. and retrieved the file like a charm. Evidently something in my FF setup is blocking the page.

Hi guys, do you know that with adownloader is far more easy?
Useful if you speak spanish. I'm not about to install something in a language I don't speak. Apart from making it a tad difficult to use, it'd make it even more difficult to know if there is any opt-out bundled crapware. If they had an english version ...

Worked like a charm, thank you for the simple tip. I used Google Chrome browser. (Right click and 'save as', etc, in my case - since I am not sure there was any 'file save window' there or not.)
After several days of the index refusing to dl it worked first time today, no probs. Go figure. Make sure you have video player addons disabled or use a clean browser install so you get the "save" option. Now I can again watch those shows that're only on iview .. net connection too slow for streaming. :(

I used the 'FFmpeg' method to download shows, but I quickly got sick of having to search the XML file, copy the URL, etc.
Until the others get around to fixing their iView rippers, those of you wanting to download shows can try this.
This is something quick I coded up for my own use. I have no plans to maintain it, especially if the others get their programs updated. iViewer will grab and load the XML file of your choice (so far only tried using the 'sony' one listed earlier). I also added the option of downloading the subtitle (if it exists) and converting it to an SRT file (again not guaranteed to actually work).
I made this using VB5 (on XP 32 bit). As such I have no idea how it will handle newer OS, let alone 64 bit. As I have no access to these don't bother asking to fix it if it doesn't work on them. I'm not sure what DLL files will be needed. I included the VB5 runtime DLL, as well as a copy of the Wine version of WININET.DLL. I have no idea if these will work with it as I already have the equivalent DLL files on my PC. You may also need other DLL files I don't know about.
Finally, you will need to download the Windows version (only tried with the 32-bit (stable) version, may work with other/64-bit versions) of FFmpeg from http://www.ffmpeg.org/ and place ffmpeg.exe in the same directory.
Again, I have no intention of maintaining this. Enjoy it while it still works (if it works).
EDIT: Original download was broken when I added SRT support. New download should actually download the right video (hopefully).

Hi Lameboyadvance (and other forumites),
New poster here with non existent technical skills but a desperate need to start downloading iview program again.
I got lameboyadvance's iviewer to load successfully but it wont download anything as it keeps telling me to download ffmpeg.exe
Now I went to the ffpmpeg website, dowloaded the files, unzipped them into same directory folder as Iviewer but for the life of me cant find the ffmpeg.exe file.
I've restarted my computer, searched the web for a solution but I still cant get it to work.
I know its probably a minor thing I'm missing and I'lll look like a moron with this post but would anyone be so kind to help out a young lady techno-dunce???!!! What am I doing wrong??!!!

http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/win32/static/ffmpeg-20150424-git-cd69c0e-win32-static.7z
As it is a 7zip (.7z) file you will need to download a program that can open them (such as 7zip ;)).
Once you have opened/extracted it ffmpeg.exe should be in the 'bin' directory.

OK you need to find the windows release of FFMPEG, the main site is Linux based and expects you to build it yourself. It got the Win 32 bit version by following links from the ffempeg.org site to here:

To lameboyadvance - many thanks and well done for your efforts.
At first I got an error when I hit the DL button, but it turned out that my version of FFMPEG.exe wasn't as fresh as I thought it was :) .
Perhaps Napper and Ripper can follow a similar process by using FFMPEG instead of RTMPdump.
You mention that you aren't interested in maintaining Iviewer - would you consider sharing the source code so that others can keep the ball rolling?

I know I said I wasn't going to maintain this, but I decided to update iViewer.
iViewer 0.1 now includes the option to show preview images, as well as the ability to download a copy of those images at full size should you wish to collect screenshots along with your videos.
Also included is the ability to resize the window, and settings are now saved to an INI file (which also has a few undocumented settings you may want to fiddle with, such as xml/image download timeouts).
I made the preview images download respective to your screen size. Those on larger resolution screens will find their preview images will be larger in size than those on smaller screens. If the larger images are taking too long to download (which is what apparently seems to be the 'lag' issue with the downloaders - sometimes the preview images download instantly, other times they will take ages) try changing the image timeout/retry settings in the INI file, or just disable image previews altogether.
Finally, it wasnt until I had nearly done this update that I noticed a bug in my old version, I apparently left a bit of debug code in that set the XML file location to the 'sony' one, even if you typed in a different URL. That should hopefully be fixed.
I have also removed WININET.DLL from the archive since it seems to exist on every version of windows. I've still kept MSVBVM50.DLL since I'm unsure how many later versions of windows include a DLL from a version of Visual Basic meant for Windows 95.
I don't think I'll be updating much else now that M3M1E is updating iViewRipper again, but hopefully you'll still find iViewer useful.

Ok downloaded it to a new folder when it downloads the xml file I get Run-Time error 13 Type Mismatch and locks up the program
I'll look into it.
...So you say it happens when you click the "Download XML File" button?
Can you give me a bit more information? What OS? 32 or 64 bit? (EDIT:I see you said Win7/64 earlier) Are you trying to download the default (sony) XML file? Does it actually say "Download complete." in the textbox before it crashes? (It might be too quick to see.)
Its working fine for me here. Only thing that comes to mind is the fact I didn't include the Wine version of WININET.DLL this time around, maybe the API calls on later OS versions changed something the Wine version didn't have. The code for the download section didn't change much between this and the last version, I just rearranged a bit and added code for the download cancel button.

Thanks, the picture helps a lot.
One thing that immediately stands out is that the Show images checkbox is selected, the textbox has shrunk to fit the preview image, but the image box is missing entirely.
Upon startup, if the Show image option is checked there should be an Image element visible in that gap (with a 3d/sunken effect). Is the area always bare/blank?
...Another thing that annoys me is how windows cuts off the right/bottom sides. Seems window sizes have changed since the "Windows Classic" theme.
I'll see what I can do.

Firstly, I took another look at your screenshot and then at my code. The description textbox is filled out, but the creation/etc dates are not. Considering these happen right after one another means it is probably failing while trying to generate the dates. In order to shrink the date textboxes down to make room for the image checkboxes, I included a system call to get your timezone information in this version, using this information it then displays the dates as local times.
The logical assumption is it is failing at this point, however the MS documentation (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724421(v=vs.85).aspx) says it should work on all OS since Windows 2000.
What time zone are you in Jamesboy70?
...Of course that blank/missing preview image box still has me worried.
...Any chance you can go into your windows temp folder (can usually be accessed by opening an Explorer window and typing %temp% in the location bar), and seeing if there are any temporary preview images downloaded? Since that is the first entry of the XML at the time that screenshot was taken, the preview image would be called 'iviewer.0001.jpg'. If it exists, the preview has been successfully downloaded. Still doesn't handle the issue of the vanishing preview window, seeing as the image is loaded prior to filling out the description box...
Here's what happened when I ran version.0.1:
375
Again, another failure to display the preview image.
This one is different to the previous problem. The earlier one would suggest it downloaded (and displayed??) successfully, but failed when getting timezone information/converting the times. This suggests that its failed at the point when it has downloaded the preview image to its temp location, and is now trying to display that file. If I fudge an incorrect file location for the image, I get an error 53. Only way I can get an error 481 is by either trying to load a PNG image, or hexediting a JPEG so its bad.
...could I also get you to view your %temp% directory and see if the images exist? Also, tell me what filename they have? Currently iViewer saves the image as either jpg, gif, png (which I now know doesn't work), or .tif if its none of the above (which is also likely to fail in the same manner).
Then, with Show Images box unchecked, I ran it successfully.
But, trying to load an image after selecting a show gives...
This is the standard behaviour. While iViewer is running, it downloads individual preview images as you select a list item, temporarily storing them in your windows Temp directory in the format 'iviewer.####.jpg', #### being the position of the video list entry (non-sorted), starting at 0001.
If Show Images is disabled when you select an item, the preview is not downloaded. When Show Images is checked while an item is selected, if the entry exists previously (iViewer should (hopefully) keep track of which images it has downloaded previously for that session, and clear them all once it is closed) it will show the image. If a copy doesn't exist locally when Show Images is checked, it will default to the 'preview failed' window (also displayed when a preview download times out) until you make another selection, at which point it will either show that one using its previously stored temp image, or download it and temporarily store it for future retrieval.
...Argh, this is why I don't make stuff for other peoples use. Works fine for me, but not for others... :(

...could I also get you to view your %temp% directory and see if the images exist? Also, tell me what filename they have? Currently iViewer saves the image as either jpg, gif, png (which I now know doesn't work), or .tif if its none of the above (which is also likely to fail in the same manner).
Location Brisbane +10 hours GMT temp folder is clear program has stopped working all together time out when loading the xml file can load the xml file in a browser I leave it I can use the IDM way of getting a program just need to convert the fly to mp4 no problems

@m4rk01
There is no longer an "iView" category, that's why I took the iView button away.. I never understood what that category was for exactly anyway. As for the MP4 button, I like a quick way to access the downloads folder but you'll see in the next version i've changed the layout of things slightly and I think it looks heaps better..
Can we have the iView button, 378, added back to the final version?
Is there a need for the MP4 button, 379, which shows the download folder?

"iview" just means programs exclusive to online viewing and not for free-to-air broadcast.

iViewRipper is a great app ! :) Worked perfectly first time. I'm a Mac OS X user and so can't run Windows apps (currently running iViewRipper in Win8.1 Enterprise trial in a VM).
I use WINE to run a lot of Windows apps under OS X. But, when I tried iViewRipper it terminated badly saying:
System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for ﺌ벨특걗 ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Token 0x40000e6 is not valid in the scope of module iViewRipper.exe
This is probably because I'm missing critical dlls in my WINE prefix. Can you advise on what dependencies iViewRipper has ? For example, does it require a particular version of .NET ?
Many thanks.

I've updated iViewer to 0.2. I started out trying to 'bugfix' the problems others were having, and by the time I'd rewritten the image preview handling I figured I'd keep on going and add a few more extras.
Apart from the (almost completely) rewritten image loading/displaying listed above, the other feature added is the ability to now sort the xml list in order, alphabetically or reverse alphabetically, and also by create, start or expire dates, ascending or descending. I also added the ability to save a copy of the loaded xml file, so you can download the xml at a time when iView isn't being super-laggy (I've found midnight/early hours to be a good time to do so), then save a copy that you can load from your HDD at a later date. Hiding preview images will also greatly speed up your ability to scroll through the video list as it won't have to try and download the preview image for each one (if you scroll too fast the previous downloading preview image will prevent the current/next images from downloading, in which case the preview will fail. Assuming iView isn't having a lag moment you can click the image reload button to try and download the preview again.
I also added the option of a log file like iViewer (enabled by default, can be disabled if you don't need a log of what you've downloaded).
Finally, I added the choice of using either FFmpeg (http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/) or cURL (http://curl.haxx.se/) as your video downloader of choice. I was hoping to also add multiple-part downloaders such as RTMPDump or RTFLV, but they only seem to work on RTMP/FLV video streams and not direct HTTP downloading.
I also added a couple of debug options. I couldn't figure out why Jamesboy70 was having issues with (what I assume was) the timezone conversion, so if you add 'DebugTimeZone=True' to the 'iViewer.ini' config file it will disable the timezone conversion and leave the times as GMT/UTC. Also I couldn't figure out why m4rk01 got the invalid picture error. I did add (basic) image file checking to ensure the preview image has downloaded entirely, but in case it was something to do with where the image was temporarily being downloaded to I added the option of changing the directory that iViewer uses as a temp folder. Add the directory of your choice to the DebugTempDir option (eg 'DebugTempDir=C:\iViewerTemp\' - make sure the directory exists first) to iViewer.ini and it will override using your windows Temp folder and instead place all temp working files in that directory instead.

iViewRipper:
I have just arrived back in Australia, so I'm out of date with 'Ripper versions. The one I have is 31 March 2015, 64-bit.
Is that the latest?
And, what's the situation with iView downloads now? When I last tried, 'Napper and 'Ripper wouldn't work at all, and I hadn't time to try the other alternatives.

...what's the situation with iView downloads now?..
Around about the 10th/11th April iView downloads were revamped. The old URLs the old versions of Napper/Ripper used won't work on videos posted after that date.
Ripper has now been updated, but I also released a small program called iViewer (see a couple of posts above) that originally started out as a way of automating the 'XML download' method, but now has a few unique features of its own.
Napper is now all but useless.

It seems to run on anything XP 32bit onwards. I've had reports of Win 7 64bit, don't know about Win8 yet though. Will probably also play nice with Wine, as long as it supports the system calls iViewer uses (2 of which can be bypassed by using the debug INI file settings listed in the 0.2 post above).
You also need to download the Windows version of either FFmpeg or cURL as well, and select which of those you wish to use as your video downloader in the settings (displayed by stretching the iViewer window until it appears in the gap between the time boxes and the image settings box).

My Chrome browser Version 42.0.2311.135m on my machine reckons that Iviewer V0.2 is "Malicious" even though Trend AV says its OK. Anyone else getting this?
Link works fine on my version of Chrome (41.something).
Is it saying the zip file is mailicous, or that tinyupload.com is? If its the latter its probably because its a not-so-well-known file upload site, and someone has probably uploaded something malicious there in the past, and Google's bot has happened to scan that file and is now saying the entire site is malicious.
The zip file is just the iViewer exe and the VB5 runtime dll inside a zip file created by 7zip.
In my case my AV blocked the d/l (the file, not the site), so I retrieved it at work and transferred it on a stick .. and oddly enuf my AV was happy with it on the stick.

Thanks, I've pulled it down with IE (must be good for something :) ) then the AV gave it a thumbs up. I guess it was the site that Chrome was getting nervous about.

I click the 'DL XML file from web' button and it say's it's downloading, but then says 'download incomplete, retrying'
It does this for a while, but i click x to close it & it says it's not responding. The code I use to download data means iViewer is basically at the mercy of the sender. I did add cancel buttons, but since iViewer pretty much hangs while it is waiting for a reply means you have to sit there with your mouse pressed on the cancel (or close) buttons until such time as it finally receives data and can actually do things like registering mouse clicks.
I have found that iView does have 'laggy periods'. During these times data seems to download sporadically in 8kb chunks or so, if at all.
I have found the best time to try grabbing the XML file is late night (around midnight/early morning, in my timezone anyway [EST]). There may be other times, but this is the one when I am usually awake at my computer so I haven't tried others. 'Peak times' (after school, primetime etc) seem to be a bad time to try downloading.
In v0.2 I added the option of saving a local copy of the XML file once you have managed to download a copy. Once you have a local copy of the XML file saved you can click the 'X' button to clear the file textbox, then the 'download xml' button should change to a 'open xml' button. Click it and select the copy you downloaded/saved earlier to load the local copy.
...One thing I have realised, since iViewer saves the contents of the file textbox if you load a local file it will show up next time you open iViewer. To get the XML file URL back you either need to close iViewer with the file texbox blank then reopen it, or copy https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/sony/?keyword=0-Z into the texbox again.
Once the XML file is downloaded/loaded from hdd, I have found disabling images will make browsing the video list quite fast, as it doesn't need to get any other data from the web until you decide to actually download a video.

With iViewRipper, could it be that you haven't installed Microsoft's .NET Framework v4.51? It is a requirement (prerequisite).
- though I would have thought just running the .EXE w/o .NET 4.51 would give an error, and quit.
M3M1E would be able to advise us. Perhaps with the new version of 'Ripper, which installs under Windows (rather than just copy/unpack), a check for the .NET Framework would be helpful to some new users?
Incidentally, I would highly recommend the free, small utility from ASoft, that allows you to determine what Microosft .NET versions are installed on your Windows computer.
http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html
Since .NET is as ubiquitous as Java, it is useful to know that information.
Note that I am using the 64-bit version, so I'm not really testing in the environment you're using.

Despite my aversion to java applications, I will give it a try - though it looks like peer-to-peer (BitTorrent) and will take over an hour to add what look like dubious plugins. My firewall is blocking stuff (Java SE) that wants to use my private networks.

Wish that was the case .. but I have the same issue every time I try, various times of the day .. and while ripper is doing nothing I can easily get the xml via FF. I've tried every version of ripper .. had limited success with the 1st version .. nada with every one since. Obviously some quirk with my rig &/or ISP that's causing the problem since it's working for others. :(
Is there (or could there be) some way one can load ripper and then load a locally stored copy of the xml file rather than trying to pull one down from the server? Using the xml/browser works for me, but it's hardly elegant. Keyword searches .. fine .. but that only works for stuff you know about .. browsing, looking for new stuff is a real pain and very easy to miss a lot. Pre-march napper worked fine.

'Napper required only the 3.5 Framework. 'Ripper needs the v4.1 Framework, and afaik the latest 'Ripper versions are 64-bit#.
It's easy to download and install the .NET Framework v4.1 or v4.2 (effectively equivalent), and this won't cause any other programs on your Windows computer to misbehave.
#My guess is that a lot of ppl will need a 32-bit version.

Not as far as I know, but this is why I added XML file loading into iViewer.
I have been having problems myself getting a copy of the XML file to download, which means I have had to resort to downloading the xml file via something else, then loading that into iViewer.

browsing, looking for new stuff is a real pain and very easy to miss a lot. Pre-march napper worked fine
I still use napper to d/l .srt subtitles where .xml is the only available with ripper.
napper is still useful to list current iView titles.

...Is anyone else having issues with sbsNapper? Early this morning it was working fine, then when I went to use it later selecting any video it would give me the 404/error message you get when you've had sbsnapper open a bit too long and the video in question has expired.
Closed it and opened a new instance, but as soon as it has downloaded the video information I now get the "Invalid URI: The URI is empty" error everytime.

re SBSRipper - yes, it is broken. See post at Whirlpool.
You should visit http://www.facebook.com/sbsripper for v1.08 (30th June 2015), which fixes the problem.
...Is anyone else having issues with sbsNapper?
Was working a couple days ago .. but just tried it and get the same error. SBSNapper did fall over occasionally in the past when there were too many eps .. after a week or two when SBS pruned the ep list, it started working again. Dunno if it's the case this time?
I've never been able to get iviewripper working on my main pc .. it can't d/l the ep database. BUT .. I installed sbsripper and it works fine on the same pc that iviewripper constantly fails. Anyone make sense of this? M3M1E?

The 'Rippers use different download 'helpers' - ffmpeg, and wget. You can see those .exe files if you look in the respective
C:\Program Files (x86)\
folders for SBSRipper and iViewRipper.
So, there is a strong possibility that another installed application makes use of (guessing) ffmpeg and this "interferes" with how 'Ripper needs to.
Just how, I don't know; but you did find that iViewRipper does work on another PC than your "main" one.

I never looked under the hood .. I just assumed they used the same downloaders .. but that makes sense. As for the clash .. the only thing that jumps out at me is that I have a Hauppauge tv card which has a tsr component that loads up on boot. Otherwise I try to run a lean system. But .. the Hauppauge software doesn't use ffmpeg AFAIK.
Mind you, it's NOT downloading the video that fails but the xml file .. and the old napper still happily dls the xml file.
Oh well .. life wasn't meant to be easy. :(

General observation - NOT a criticism of M3M1E:
I guess I shouldn't complain, but there is an inherent problem in iViewRipper not using rtmpdump (and SBSRipper not using RTFLV = the python parallel downloader's method, with a modified URL) in that resume isn't possible.
This is a real problem for those unfortunates with a flaky internet connection.
Though my connection is not great, just OK - at best 6Mbps (download speed 750 KB/s) - I have had a couple of weeks of problems due to one or all of: faulty modem, faulty filter/splitter, faults on the copper line, or my ISP.
If there is no connection, the 'Rippers don't work (no warning messages); if connection is lost, the spawned download processes just stall, and when the internet connection is resumed (with/without modem restart), seldom do the download(s) succeed.
Cancelling the individual processes (or the entire 'Ripper parent process) will delete the downloaded MP4 fragment (or a successful download - I have checked, by making a copy of MP4 and playing*).
* otherwise it's hard to know if a 'saved' file is complete or not
Under perfect internet connection situation, it is fatal to download a show again: the existing MP4 file with identical name (successfully DL previously) will be deleted, and a new DL begun. With rtmpdump (iView or SBS), or RTFLV (SBS) the 'resume' parameter ensured this wasted time/effort/quota didn't happen. I thought that this was so with curl.exe as well (? continue at offset).
There are a few other unresolved problems. It's not a good idea to be greedy, selecting several shows to download at once or more than one very large show (on iView, because of the very modest bitrate of all shows, that means something over an hour or two of air play time).
On SBS, where the SBSRipper uses a high bitrate by default (and no other option), this is a big problem - everything one chooses to download is large. I sometimes like to check SBS News, which I could tolerate at a 512K bitrate (and get 1500K later, if it was really desirable to get a good view).
As I stated at the top, this is not a criticism of M3M1E, who has generously devoted a lot of time to the only tools we have.
But I would like to see some improvements, because many of the problems outlined above affect exactly those who find that they can't use the iView player or SBS On Demand - those with bloody awful internet connections.

As I said before for ABC I use IDM (internet download manager) for all my downloads in Iview using Firefox and the idm plugin . Start iview find the file that you want click on it to start it to play a box will come up on the top right hand side click on the green arrow a list of various file sizes will drop down chose which you want it will download fast you can pause the playing file if you want to as the downloaded file will be a flash file convert with your favorite converter this works with SBS iview as well but not the encrypted type

Glad you're having success. Did you find out what the difference between machines was, that caused the one to never work with a 'Ripper until v2.13?
It would be useful to have the 'Ripper "DB" (.dat) file as its raw xml instead of a binary version.
But I wonder if a saved .dat could be used like we used to manually alter input to Yansky's (I think) batch file, to get "expired" shows - like yesterday's WA news, for example.
There are several iView programs, mainly news factual, that have a residence time of a day, and sometimes appear for very much less than 24 hours.
I must try...
Never could work out what the issue was .. gave up in the end. The xml/browser method, whilst messy, works fine.
Whatever the problem with ripper on some machines where the index would not download (hence the fix to run if off a local database instead), the latest version (2.15) seems to have somehow fixed the problem. At least on my rig. With 2.15 it happily d/ls the index from the internet, something it's not been able to do in any previous version.
There have recently been some .net patches for the version ripper uses. Maybe there were issues with the original .net release that meant ripper couldn't get the index on some rigs, given the hardware and /ot software environment, and the recent patches fixed it? From the comments, quite a few have had the same issue. I chalked it up to a tv-card, but they are not that common these days, so I doubt it's that. .net quirks sound more likely.

Hi.
Loading a database from a file always starts the search from the Desktop.
I keep my database files in the same folder as my defined 'Output folder': D:\Rippers\iViewRipper. Which is also where I keep your excellent software. ;)
It would be nice if the 'Database folder' could be defined along with the 'Output folder'.
Thanks.

Has anyone experienced this recently?

I've posted a comment on the Facebook location, but maybe I should email M3M1E directly.

.NET 4.5.2 can be installed on Vista SP2 so I believe it should work no problem. AFAIK the only requirement for the rippers is the listed version of the .Net framework or newer regardless of which version of windows you are running.

I would not expect any movies on iView to have subtitles, unless hard-coded into the video itself (ie, not as a separate .SRT file).
I have found that some subtitles, when available (not available for all shows, BTW) are saved as .xml files - which may mean that their format is not handled correctly by the 'Ripper.

I've only just noticed that captions (.srt) for Antiques Roadshow don't display English pound (GBP) symbols correctly. I'm using VLC, default for subtitles (SRT) is set to Windows-1252
Checking a few of the shows, I see some with just ?? (2 or more ?) followed by numbers, others with numbers prefaced with and#xA3; - eg GBP20 is and#xA3;20
I have a caption editor program (Subtitle Edit) that might be able to fix this, but I think it may be easier to use a text editor.
Am I right in assuming that the 'Ripper downloader is not causing this?

That's right gxdata. I've resorted to editing these characters manually with a text editor.
I thought the subtitles all disappeared after Clarke and Dawe Episode 14, dated late May 2016. But, all the Crownies series and Stop At Nothing: The Lance Armstrong Story have the .srt subtitles.

This is what I use.
https://findandreplace.codeplex.com/
Very small executable. (181kb)
Sample batch file
c:\lib\fnr.exe --cl --dir "C:\vids\abc\" --fileMask "*.srt" --find "and#xA3;" --replace "GBP"

I could not get things to work within a batch file. mea culpa.
Had to do the find/replace using the program gui.

Codes are here.

I'm using an xml file to find and download content from iview eg:
https://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/feed/sony/?keyword=0-Z.
How does one go about finding a similar file so that I could get the xml file for sbs on demand?
Thanks

Problems again with iView - the 'Ripper can't recognize (? probably) changed data format, so that the episode (title) information is missing dates, description has no duration or video size.

iViewRipper v1.22
I'm using v2.20 with the same results.
(Does the version quoted refer to SBSRipper?)
