Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD vervice?

Unfortunately Channel4 has not been so considerate as to provide addresses for its programmes and even if they had I would not be inclined to execute commands from DOS prompts on my PC. Can someone please just try recording a programme from 4OD and let me know when they have succeeded, rather than (with the best will in the world) just posting complex messages about what ought to work. Thanks.

I'm new to this forum and I don't want to be rude and get myself ostracised, but it does seem just a teeny bit like being in a room full of virgins discussing how good someone is in bed.

For a moment there I thought it worked, however I got this error with rtmpdump

Any ideas?

This is not only about screen video capture software, it also depends on how powerful your computer is, what video resolution and audio/video codecs you use.

What kind of resolution do you use? What kind of audio/video codecs and what bit-rate do you use? What exactly happens to your audio?

That's a nice comparison!!!

It is true that few people know how to use rtmpdump and it is not an easy to use software. And when there will be a good tutorial for the program (or may be a nice GUI), I bet in a couple of days the developers of server software will introduce new changes and rtmpdump will stop working.

But I see only two alternatives here: either to learn more about rtmpdump or to capture video from your screen.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

I've just used URL Snooper to detect the url of a programme that is being streamed securely after the recordable adverts. Here is one such programme (an episode of Hollyoaks):

Code:
http://www.channel4.com/4oD/mp4:assets/CH4_08_02_16_47605027001001_001.mp4
Does that help anyone?

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

It's the same as what I described in this thread awhile ago, I said I used URL Snooper to get the link, but unfortunately nothing will download it, not even rtmpdump. Your only choice is screen recording software.

And that link isn't the correct link, it's
Code:
rtmpe://securestream.channel4.com/4oD/mp4:assets/CH4_08_02_16_46832136001001_001.mp4

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

Make sure you use rtmpdump v1.6.
If 4od uses SWF verification, you need to find the URL of the SWF player, as well and provide the URL of the player, its SWF hash and SWF size as parameters for rtmpdump.

Please post the exact parameters you use and the rtmpdump output, otherwise it will be almost impossible to help.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

I used 1.6, I just followed the on screen instructions to add the url and save location, it never asked me for the swf player location, I'll need to try and find some tutorial or documentation on it for that as I have no clue what command that is.

I posted my previous rtmpdump output a few posts up.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?

Sorry for not making a wrong statement. By command I meant exact parameters that you use with rtmpdump.

The program doesn't ask any details about SWF player.

This may help a little bit:
rtmpdump.com - freeware RTMP stream downloader (MacOS X, Linux, Windows)
