How to record rtmp:// flash video .flv stream from embedded Adobe Flash Player

RTMP flash stream recorders for Windows
To record rtmp:// flash video .flv stream from embedded Adobe Flash Player may use the following RTMP Flash stream rippers:
  • My top three:
  • Replay Media Catcher (Shareware/Windows) - can find rtmp:// stream URLs and automatically download RTMP flash video .FLV streams and RTMP .MP3 audio streams from embedded Adobe Flash player.
  • WM Recorder (Shareware/Windows) can find rtmp:// stream URLs and automatically download RTMP flash video .FLV streams and RTMP .MP3 audio streams from embedded Adobe Flash player. RTMP stream recording of WM Recorder is at the early stage, so there are some problems with recording live RTMP streams (like live video chats), recording RTMP through HTTP.
  • Jaksta (Shareware/Windows) can download and capture RTMP and HTTP videos from Adobe Flash Player. Also has a Mac version.

    Other products:
  • rtmpdump (Freeware/Windows, Linux, Mac OS X) is a console application that can dump RTMP and secure RTMPE streams. Geeks only!!!
  • RTMPexplorer (Freeware/Windows) - GUI for rtmpsrv. Allows to download RTMP and RTMPE streams with rtmpdump.
  • get-flash-videos (Freeware/Windows, Linux, Mac OS X) is a console application that uses rtmpdump to download flash videos. Supports limited number of web-sites, but doens't need a flash player to be installed on your computer.
  • CooJah + Blader (Freeware/Windows) software that allows to find HTTP, RTMP and RTMPE flash stream URLs and download them.
  • NetTransport (Shareware/Windows) can download RTMP and HTTP .FLV videos from Adobe Flash Player. Can find and reveal RTMP stream URLs.
  • StreamTransport (and its clones Moyea's YouTube FLV Downloader, Foxreal YouTube Downloader) (Freeware/Windows) is flash video downloader supporting HTTP, RTMP and RTMPE streams.
  • Orbit Downloader (Shareware/Windows) can download RTMP flash videos. Its Grab++ can find and reveal RTMP stream URLs and Grab Pro can capture RTMP and HTTP video streams.
  • GetFLV (Shareware/Windows) can capture RTMP, RTMPE and HTTP .FLV videos from Adobe Flash Player.
  • HiDownload is a download manager that allows to download HTTP and RTMP streams from Adobe Flash Player automatically.
  • Internet Download Manager allows to download HTTP and RTMP streams from Adobe Flash Player
  • Flash Stream Hunter (Shareware/Windows) can capture RTMP and HTTP videos from Adobe Flash Player
  • Rip Tiger (Shareware/Windows) can download RTMP and HTTP flash videos automatically.
  • Bit Recorder (Shareware/Windows) - automatically captures packets coming to your flash player. Supports RTMP and HTTP protocols, flash video .FLV files and .MP3 audio files.
  • FLV Recorder (Shareware/Windows) can capture packets coming to your Adobe Flash Player. It can save RTMP and HTTP .FLV flash video streams to HD, but it doesn't work with RTMP .MP3 streams.
  • Flv Downloader and its clone Flv Ripper (Shareware/Windows) can capture RTMP and HTTP .FLV videos from Adobe Flash Player.
  • Flazr (Freeware/Windows, Linux, Mac OS X) software that allows to download RTMP streams. Not user friendly. Requires Java 1.5+.
  • TubeMaster++ (Freeware/Windows, Linux) software that allows to download RTMP streams. Requires Java.
  • TuneBite Platinum (Shareware/Windows)
  • aTube Catcher (Freeware/Windows) can download HTTP, RTMP and capture videos from screen.
  • Freemake Video Downloader (Freeware/Windows) can download HTTP, RTMP flash video streams.
  • Wondershare Streaming Video Recorder (and its clone Aiseesoft Streaming Video Recorder, Tipard Video Downloader) (Shareware/Windows) can download HTTP and RTMP streams.
  • save2pc Pro + Extra Pack (Shareware/Windows) can download HTTP, RTMP streams from select popular web-sites.
  • E.M. Youtube Video Download tool (Shareware/Windows) can download RTMP and HTTP .FLV videos from Adobe Flash Player.
And of course you can record RTMP video streams from embedded flash player using screen video capture software, but RTMP Flash stream ripper like Replay Media Catcher, WM Recorder allow you to save such streams without any quality loss.

p.s. If you know how to find rtmp:// stream URLs with some other software, please let us know.

How to record rtmp:// flash .flv video, .mp3 audio from embedded Adobe Flash Player

WM Recorder (editor's choice) (Windows) allows to capture/rip/download .FLV video streams and .MP3 audio streams broadcasted through the RTMP protocol from the embedded Flash player.

How to download rtmp:// .FLV video stream or rtmp:// .MP3 audio stream with WM Recorder in real time with AUTO recording mode enabled (AUTO ON):
  • Download and install WM Recorder.
  • Open WM Recorder.
  • Click the MODE button. The Recording Modes dialog appears.
  • Choose the ADA mode (WM Recorder will automatically choose the best Adapter for you. It is always the default adapter that Windows uses.) or choose the PRO Mode.
  • Select Auto recording so that you no longer need to click the Record button to start a recording. Every supported audio or video stream you play is automatically recorded in this mode.
  • Using your browser or your media player, play the .FLV video or .MP3 audio stream you want to record.
  • Recording starts automatically. The RECORD button turns to STOP. Once the recording begins you can start playing and recording another video / audio clip. There is no need to wait until the play is finished.
  • To end one or more recordings click STOP and select the desired action from the pop-up menu.

Note that WM Recorder also supports other recording modes. The above mentioned method is the easiest one because it doesn't even require you to hit the RECORD button. Please refer to the user guide for more.

Jaksta (editor's choice) (Windows) can download and capture packets coming to your Adobe Flash Player. To download or capture RTMP streams with Jaksta:
  • Run Jaksta
  • Click the Record button
  • Navigate to a web page with your video stream and play it in the embedded flash player.
  • All .FLV flash video streams broadcasted through the HTTP or RTMP protocol will be downloaded/captured automatically.
Please note that when Jaksta captures packets from flash player (rather than downloads RTMP streams), you need to play an audio/video stream fully to capture it.

How to record rtmp:// .flv video from Flash Player with E.M. Youtube Video Download

For HTTP only, and free, I've used Vixy Freecorder and it's great. Also has converter, screen recorder, torrent and more.
