How to record rtmp:// flash .flv video from embedded Adobe Flash Player with RipTiger


Rip Tiger (Windows) allows to capture/rip/download .FLV video streams broadcasted through the RTMP protocol from the embedded Flash player.

How to download/rip rtmp:// .FLV video stream Rip Tiger:
  • Run Rip Tiger
  • Make sure "Automatic downloading is turned on" (if it is not, click onto the "On/Off" button.
  • Navigate to a web page with and play your video stream in the embedded flash player.
  • All .FLV flash video streamed through the HTTP or RTMP protocol will be downloaded automatically!

try using real player 11 beta. it can download videos from any website.

This is not true. Have you ever tried to download/capture/rip RTMP video streams with Real Player?

Besides you should take into account that Real Player saves recordings in its proprietory IVR format:

How to record rtmp:// flash video .flv stream from embedded Adobe Flash Player


rtmpdump - freeware CLI application (Mac OS X, Linux, Windows). rtmpdump 1.6 allows you to dump RTMP streams onto your hard drive. It can also download RTMPE streams and streams with SWF verification.

Command line for rtmpdump to download RTMP stream with "--resume" option:

rtmpdump parameters:

--rtmp|-r url           URL (e.g. rtmp//hotname[:port]/path)

--port|-c port          Overrides the port in the rtmp url
--protocol|-l           Overrides the protocol in the rtmp url (0 - RTMP, 3 - RTMPE)
--playpath|-y           Overrides the playpath parsed from rtmp url
--swfUrl|-s url         URL to player swf file
--tcUrl|-t url          URL to played stream (default: "rtmp://host[:port]/app")
--pageUrl|-p url        Web URL of played programme
--app|-a app            Name of player used
--swfhash|-w hexstring  SHA256 hash of the decompressed SWF file (32 bytes)
--swfsize|-x num        Size of the decompressed SWF file, required for SWFVerification
--auth|-u string        Authentication string to be appended to the connect string
--flashVer|-f string    Flash version string
--live|-v               Save a live stream, no --resume (seeking) of live strems possible
--flv|-o string         FLV output file name, if the file name is - print stream to stdout
--resume|-e             Resume a partial RTMP download
--timeout|-m num        Timeout connection num seconds 
--buffer|-b             Buffer time in milliseconds, this option makes only sense in stdout mode 
--skip|-k num           Skip num keyframes when looking for last keyframe to resume from. Useful if resume fails

Flash Stream Hunter (Windows) is a flash stream capture software. It support HTTP and RTMP protocols.

To capture RTMP videos with Flash Stream Hunter:
  1. Open Flash Stream Hunter.
  2. Navigate to a page with your video or audio stream and play it in the embedded flash player.
  3. All .FLV flash video and .MP3 audio files streamed through the HTTP or RTMP protocol will be saved to hd automatically

How to download rtmp:// flash video .flv stream with GetFLV


GetFLV (Windows) is a flash downloader. It support HTTP and RTMP protocols. Also it can secure RTMPE streams and streams using SWF verification.

To download RTMP videos with GetFLV:
  1. Launch "FLV Browser" and navigate to a web-site with flash video streams.
  2. Play the video that you want to download.
  3. GetFLV will capture the real URL of the selected video and show it in the URL list.
  4. Select the special item if you want to download it. Click the "Download" button or select "Download" menuitem from the popup menu.
  5. GetFLV will start downloading the selected item with the FLV Downloader.

How to download rtmp:// flash video .flv stream with freeware CooJah + Blader


CooJah (Windows) is a network sniffer that allows to find RTMP URLs.
Blader is a downloader supporting HTTP, RTMP and RTMPE streams. Blader and CooJah are integrated together.

How to download RTMP audio/video streams with freeware CooJah + Blader:
  1. Run CooJah
  2. Navigate to a web-page with an RTMP audio/video stream or run a streaming player and play an RTMP stream.
  3. CooJah will automatically find RTMP stream URLs.
    On the picture below the the lower part shows that CooJah has found an RTMP stream URL and displays it on the Video page.
  4. Right click on the RTMP URL. Select "Download by Blader" item from the pop-up menu.
  5. Blader will be started and a dialog will pop up for adding task. You can choose location for saving the RTMP resource and rename it.
  6. Click OK to start downloading.
  7. If thr RTMP resource you are downloading requires authorization, Blader will pop up a dialog where you need to enter a secure token. Then the download will continue.

Replay Media Catcher is a best tool to downloading from RTMP.
