What info do I have to say other than I'm using a dynamic IP?
Am I suppose to change it as a static? If I'm suppose to change it, how do I change a dynamic ip in to static ip?

i have an iphone set up to pick up my wi fi signal when it is not using 3g. if you go into settings it will give you the ip addresses the router is using at the present time .then goto dyndns to look at your latest ip address and update .....hope this is of some help

I read through that post once again. However, this is no mention of how to do this in the Airport Extreme. The DVR has IP addresses. The AirPort has MAC addresses. I can't find anywhere in the menus where I can direct the data to the DVR.

I am trying to understand this but there is a lot of information here. So much, I don't really know what it means or what may apply to my situation.

Simply put, I have a DVR hooked straight to my router (no computer). My MAC router does not show an IP address. It shows a MAC address. This is not covered in this thread.

Is there anyone or not that can shed more light?

Hi, and thanks for asking let me try to help you first. what kind of dvr are you using, second also who is providing your telephone. or internet service, and finally you have to use your static IPA. or just asigned one to the dvr itself. thanks and God bless you,

Hi, my friend epson, a mac address is assigned automatically to any equipment that is hooked to your router, so I believe, you most dedicate one and assign one to the dvr which is why it can be identifie. but it also required that your modem or router open some port, eg port 80, or port 7777. 21, or depending on the brand and manufacturer of the dvr, it will use two set of ports one for internal, connection, or local. the other for remote connection. or external,
the setting need to be adjusted in the Router, first and if you are going to assign a port to open base on mac address I believed the dvr might not work from outside, so if I am not wrong mac registering, might not work at all, with a dvr, I need more info

thru this forum, i was able to access already my dvr over the internet (login is successfull, can do a remote reset and reconfiguration on dvr) but i still have a prob...the video captured by dvr camera is not registering on my remote access... hope u or someone already encountered this problem that might be able to share the fix.

there should be somewhere within that activeX control web page to access a "control panel" or "setup" and within there you should be able to find where the default folders/directorys should be, sorry so generic, but not sure of what your software is

I have Netgear WGR614 V7 model...How to configure in this...I have completed Dynamic DNS part but I could not locate application setting or server setting? Kindly help me.

Setting up DVR to be used from remote location:

1. Connect your DVR to your router
2. Use menu on DVR to assign internal IP and gateway and port number.
   
   This Local IP must be in the same Gateway range as the Router. If you are unsure check the Router and locate the Status section, or goto the Command prompt of Windows XP and type in ipconfig.
   
   Look for Gateway. If the Gateway is 192.168.1.1, then you can make the DVR's IP anything from 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.255.

   In many cases it will be as simple as just Port 80, which is an HTTP port.
4. Set your router to forward chosen port to internal IP address of DVR.
   
   To access the Router itself, use the Gateway you just located. If the gateway is 192.168.1.1, then enter that into the location edit box of your browser and then click the Enter button. A username and a password are typically required, but it depends on a router. For Linksys use "admin", "admin". By default DLink doesn't require any username or password (It is highly recommended to change the default password).
   
   Once you're logged into the Router, in the Applications & Gaming Section / Servers of the Router, you need to add a Server/Application. Enter the port number and select TCP only. Where it says Port 0 to 0 enter the same port number twice. Or if your DVR uses for example, ports 3550, 4550, 5550, 6550, and there is nothing else utilizing these ports in between, then you can actually just enter one line, 3550 - 6550.
   
   Enter the DVR/Cameras internal IP.
   
   Enable it.
   
   
5. Set up additional entries for as many ports the DVR uses, to the same local IP. Check your DVR manual and it's networking section for all additional ports required. Also check the DVR software itself.
   
   If your router has enough free entries, you can seperate them. Use it like DVR_HTTP for the browser port, DVR_AUDIO for the audio port, etc.
   
   If you are going to use VNC to a PC DVR, then you would need to set up port 5900, and perhaps call it VNC_DVR, for example.
6. You have a static IP so you don't need to use sevices like www.dyndns.org . You just enter your static IP and your router forwards packets to your DVR.
