is there a way to tell the way myspace songs are posted in terms of bit rate?

Download MySpace songs with freeware rtmpdump or download MySpace songs with Replay Media Catcher and see for yourself

Post the URL of the web-page with the streams which you want to know. I will try to download and let you know.

p.s. rtmpdump is absolutely free, so it will be pretty easy to check it out!

So is Myspace still crappy quality compressed mp3s or are they the original mp3s that the artists posted up?

Re: what bitrate is myspace in now?

hi, although myspace audio streams are tricky to capture because of secure RMTP (RTMPE), it is possible. you get *.FLV-files with rtmpdump, StreamTransport, GetFLV, CooJah + Blader.

they all download the same FLV file: 2.93MB for a test song of 4min13sec length.

+ Replay Media Catcher 3 is NOT able to detect mp3 frame rates and extract the audio as MP3. strange!

+ getflv "decompresses" a 3.86MB-sized MP3 file, 128kbps, LAME 3.98, 44.1kHz, and the Encoded Tag field says "Lavf52.22.0" (whatever that means!?)

+ flvextract extracts a 2.89MB-sized MP3 file, 96kbps, LAME 3.97, sampler rate 22050Hz, and the file is fully untagged.

Funnily i dont have any LAME 3.97 codec installed on my system. And why would the MP3 file be much bigger than the FLV file. All this evidences that GetFLV does not extract the mp3 audio data but CONVERTS THE FLV TO MP3:

anyway. my tests demonstrate that myspace songs are in 96 and not in 128.

Replay Media Catcher 4 uses ffmpeg for extracting MP3 and AAC audio tracks from video files (not limited to FLV and MP4 videos).

Re: what bitrate is myspace in now?

you're a user and fan of RMC 4, arent you? i am too. let's not confuse the boardies. RMC4 does not extract the audio but it uses ffmpeg to convert the audio (within the FLV-file) from its original format within the FLV (can be mp3, aac, ...) to your specified format (can, again, be mp3, mp4, m4a, ...).

audio extraction is a lossless process. (FLVExtract)
audio conversion is a lossy process. (RMC4 )

RMC3 does have the functionality to extract mp3 from flv, given that the flv contains original mp3 audio data. but with flv's from myspace, RMC3 has problems to identify and extract the mp3 data.

anyway we can cut the discussion (or the thread). audio from myspace is low bitrate (96kbps. not 128!) and i am not interested in wasting my time with playing with such kiddo audio thanks!

all audio i download and archive (collect) is in 192-320. exceptional rare albums exist in LQ (64, 128). but myspace couldnt be called an exception: it is a whole huge website!!

There is no confusion. I suggested to add presets for lossless audio extraction:
http://forum.applian.com/showthread....-extract-audio
so I know for sure that this is not conversion.

AAC and MP3 extraction presets are available by default in RMC since version 4.0.14.
