Windows Media Revocation & Renewal error message when using Soundtaxi, Tunebite

Hi, I'm new to the forum but wanted to get people's opinion's on Soundtaxi and the like. I have ST Pro and have been using it for around a year now to convert/remove DRM on my legally downloaded Napster WMA files to a more iPod-compatible format like MP3 and AAC.

I have recently upgraded my PC's OS from XP to W7 HP 64bit and have begun to experience the Windows Media Revocation & Renewal error message being displayed after converting about 25 files. I have been emailing back and forth with ST support and they say they are aware of the problem and that their developers are looking for a fix. In the meantime I have been advised to disable all programs on startup and this does fix the problem, but of course I don't want to have to do that every time. I am going to try and see if I can run ST in compatibility mode with XP and see if it behaves itself a bit more then.

Anyway, this isn't a major gripe really, the main problem I have with the software is the inability to convert multiple files at once. Whenever I try this (on my old XP OS and my current W7) my CPu-usage hits nearly 100% resulting in my tracks skipping and clipping intermitantly. I was advised by ST to reduce the settings to convert just one track at a time but this takes an absolute age to do when converting lots of albums.

I have what I consider to be a reasonably fast PC: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ CPU, 4GB of RAM, good graphics card and a good external soundcard. So I cannot understand why I can't convert lots of files at once without it either crippling my PC or causing the tracks to skip upon playback. It seems to me it must be a poorly written piece of software.

So to that end, would you recommend I switch programs to something else and if so, what? I've looked at the poll results here and it seems that Tunebite
is top followed by Soundtaxi. The trouble is that I have seen elsewhere that other people have had similar R&R error messages with TB and I'm not sure if that program would allow me to convert multiple files better than ST does.

I'm not familar with Daniusoft although I have emailed them explaining my requirements/issues but so far they haven't responded to say if their software is any better.

Sorry for this huge post but I am at my wits end with ST and just want to be able to listen to my music on my iPod Touch without having to either buy every single album (which I can't possibly afford, hence the reason I subscribe to Napster's unlimited downloads service) or change my MP3 player for one that is compatible with Napster.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Windows Media Revocation & Renewal error message when using Soundtaxi, Tunebite

Hi.

As you I had some problems with Tunebite and the Windows Media Revocation & Renewal error message. My problem was my AV program, I have Bitdefender and I had to get into Antivirus, Advanced Settings and then exclude all the Exe files from Tunebite in Bitdefender Active Virus Control. I also had to exclude a file in Windows\System32 called mfpmp.exe, its a file necessary for playing protected WMA files, so you cant delete it. After that everything works like a charm. Regarding many files and clipping there is a feature in Tunebite, where you can set the speed manually, I dont know about ST, but think there must be at similar feature. But I think your main problem is Windows Media Revocation & Renewal error message, Ive read somewhere else, that a service called Tablet PC should be deactivated as well, but I haven't done that.

Hope this helps

Possible Solution to Windows Revocation and Renewal Popup

Hi,

I have Soundtaxi and was having the same problem. I found that Adobe Acrobat was causing the revocation and renewal popup when I tried to convert a lot of files at one time. In Windows 7, I typed in msconfig (Start-->Search Programs and Files box) , then went to the startup tab. I selected "Disable All" (then "Apply" and "Okay") then restarted my computer. When it restarted I tried converting about 20 files. It worked. I then went back to msconfig (Startup Tab), hit the "Startup Item" tab to alphabetize the list and selected the first item on the list. (then "Apply" and "Okay") I restarted my computer, opened SoundTaxi and tried to convert another 20 files. I repeated this until I got the R&R popup. Once you discover the program that's causing the issue, you can simply go back to msconfig and uncheck the item. If you have to use the program that's causing the problem, you can find it in all programs. But, once you use it, you'll have to make sure it isn't back in the Startup programs list again.
This method may seem time consuming, but so is restarting your computer every 6 to 10 songs you try to convert.
