Windows media Player troubleHi, I am a new member.
I am in trouble with WMP9. I use Windows 2000 Pro, with service pack4. I have 1GB RAM. For a quite long time it all works fine. But now audio (video?) reproduced with WMP has gaps. Not silence, just gaps. It happens with radio, stream audio, reproducing files saved in hard disk, reproducing videos (e.g. the videos included in Flight Simulator 2004). I uninstalled (and reinstalled) WMP, audio and video card drivers, with no change. I suspect of an installation of RealPlayer, asked by an internet radio. I installed the software but it distorted severely, with radio and reproducing files, so I uninstalled it. I am not sure, by I suspect the actual trouble with WMP is somehow related. Anybody can help, please? Regards, Guillermo PS: I can attach a small mp3 illustrating the problem |

And what about other media players (like Media Player Classic, VLC, MPlayer, Winamp, Foobar)? Do you have the same problems?

I suggest you to get the latest version of WMP and install it. Some web-sites use embedded WMP so you will need it most probably anyway.
Also if you take a look at our chart All streaming video recording software, you will see that not only MPlayer and VLC can play Windows Media streams, but also record them. Although I suggest to use WM Recorder or GetAsfStream when recording. See Internet media players for the links to WMP, VLC, MPlayer |

I uninstalled and reinstalled WMP9 several times, with no change. I want to use WMP to hear internet radio and also to download music from several sites (e.g. Andante). Can I use another software to do that? I suspect that the problem was caused by an installation of Real Player, asked by a radio. I uninstalled this software because it did not work well, and after that -although I am not completely sure- WMP begins to have the problem. I ignore what files were modified by Real Player. Thank you. Regards PS: I can send you a mp3 file showing the problem |

The answer is in my previous post. Please re-read it.
Did you get a newer version of WMP? Do you use any codec pack (like K-Lite Codec Pack)? It is handy to use one, but sometimes you may get a problem with it that it is not easy to solve. Also your computer's speed could be an issue. Do you have an old machine? |
