When I click Multi Scan the name of the wmv appears in the appropriate box, the downloaded video starts to play but no drm2 folder is created in the active folder despite the box being ticked. Also, there is no cache folder in the DRM folder, I can't find any *.key files and nothing at all appears in the box adjacent to the Clear button. I have been to the MS website and personalised my copy of WMP. I have followed items 3 & 4 and selected Show Hidden and unticked the file extension box.
Try to follow the 3 & 4 items again without skipping anything.

as for drmdbg with freeme2, please read the following thread

I don't really understand your question. What would going to WMP10 help to achieve?

Re: Windows Media Player 10/11: How to determine IBX version

Is there a way to change the IBX version? I have WMP 11.0.5721.5145 installed, but when I check the IBX, it says I have version 11.0.6000.7000. I'm trying to use drmdbg/FreeMe2 to break the drm, here is a link to the problem I'm having. If I could get version 11.0.6000.7000 installed, would that fix the problem without having to change the IBX? (I'm having a very hard time finding that particular version of WMP).

To get the latest version of WMP, you can just use Windows Update. I don't know whether WMP 11.0.6000.7000 exists or not.

To get older version of WMP, see the following thread:
How to roll back or uninstall Windows Media Player 11 (Windows Vista)

If you downgrade WMP, you will lose all your licenses. Make sure you can re-acquire them. You should also disable automatic Windows updates. And you should also know that some content providers force you to upgrade WMP.

Win 7 (and presumably Vista) users, as there is no Version tab on the properties dialogue, you can open the key file in Resource Hacker, or similar program, to find out the version number.
