Want to watch DVR via Internet:What is the minimum Internet connection speed required

Hi

I have a DVR (4 Channel) and also a VPN on my Office Network. We have a Dynamic IP but we use ipname and dyndns. I am able to access all Network Resources INCLUDING the DVR via the Internet, Remotely.

The problem arises in the fact that its just TOO SLOW. The images appear on my Remote Screen and then the whole System Freezes. Neither can I see movements, nor close the window.

Does it have to do with the ADSL Speed? We have 512K Download and 128K Upload.

Re: Want to Watch DVR Via Internet

The type of DSL service has a substantial impact on the network performance of a DVR.

What kind of Internet connection does your DVR require? Do you have a manual?

Have you tried to reduce the video quality and/or the speed of the broadcast?

Have you tried to to access your DVR from another location?

Re: Want to Watch DVR Via Internet

The Manual says nothing about the DSL Connection.

I have tried various locations, but all of them are the same.

I also tried working with the FPS but that did not help either.

Is there a minimum speed required to remotely access a DVR through the internet?

Re: Want to Watch DVR Via Internet

There are no minimum speed requirements, because different video codecs and frame rate are use by different DVRs in different modes.

Thought there should be minimum requirements for a particular model. If you can't find them in the manual, you should contact the vendor.

Besides the system freezes so this could be due to a vendor specific bug. Contact the vendor so they could fix the bug, offer to use other version of software,...

Re: Want to Watch DVR Via Internet

  • On the remote PC is the screen saver on?
  • Is remote monitor turned off after say15 minutes?
  • Is your hard drive turned off after 15 mins?
  • Have you updated the remote DVR software to the newest version?
  • Is this the software that came with the DVR you own?
  • Does this only happen over the internet, local LAN or both?

Presumably ATI video card is the card of choice for most DVRs. As a rule of thumb most (not all but most) will only work with ATI or INTEL video. Some people think that most GeForce video cards and AMD CPUs are not DVR friendly.

If still having problem, please list the following:
  • Brand and model DVR.
  • Type of computer including memory size, brands and models of your motherboard, processor and video card.

There could be even weird problem like conflicts with a printer/fax machine.
