unable to record anything on Windows Vista (desktop PC with integrated realtek audio)

I have a dell desk top running windows vista with an integrated realtek high def audio. I have tried freecorder, easyradio, hdoog, and Audacity to no avail. In all of them it shows it is recording but actually nothing is recorded. I go to the saved file and play it and there is no sound.

I used to use easyradio on my old system which was an amd processor with a sound blaster sound card running windows 2000 pro.

When I check on input devices in easyradio there is nothing listed. Do I need to get a sound card? I have already checked for new drivers for the realtek integrated card but have turned up nothing.

Even the sound recorders that you can try for free and then buy don't work. Any ideas?

Re: unable to record anything on Windows Vista (desktop PC with integrated realtek au

IMHO you don't need to buy a sound card. AFAIK most integrated sound cards can play sound and record it at the same time.

It seems that you tried to use Windows software that doesn't work on Vista. You can record from your sound card on Windows Vista with the following software: freeware Freecorder Toolbar, freeware Jaksta Free Media Recorder, shareware Replay AV and Replay Music and some others.

Freeware Freecorder Toolbar and Jaksta Free Media Recorder work with ANY sound card, even those that don't support recording (like RealTek and SigmaTel). They work on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Please note that Windows Media Player 11 on Windows Vista may use a "protected audio path" technology which prevents recording. So you won't be able to record protected audio content on Windows Vista. It will work fine on Windows XP though.
