How to turn bad myfreecam flv. files into good quality wmv. files.

Don't trash that bad mfc flv just yet!

I record live public shows off of mfc http://www.myfreecams.com/ using Replay Media Catcher http://applian.com/download-videos/
The recording you get is on flv. format. A lot of these files come out messed up. They are usually unseekable. Also, when you try to convert them into a different format the video quality is terrible and the audio sync is usually off. I have yet to find a good converter and a good flv. fixer for myfreecams flv. type files.

However, there is a process I use to correct these files although it is a pain in the ass, but it works!

This process must be followed in my exact order or it will not work. Any steps taken out of sequence will end up in failure.

1. Download these two free programs. FLVMDI and FLVMDIGUI and follow the quick and easy instructions http://stream-recorder.com/forum/fix...es-t5751.html?

a. ) Drag the flv. file onto the FLVMDI icon first until the program completes the fixing process.

b. )Then open the file using the FLVMDIGUI program. Again, wait for the fixing process to complete.

*remember, using the FLVMDGUI process must be used in conjunction with the FLVMFGUI.ini file or it will not work*

2. Next, download the free program GetFLV: http://download.cnet.com/GetFLV/3000...-10618974.html Use the FLV fixer option and go through the fixing process.

3. After that, open up the flv. file using Replay Media Catcher ‘s “Fix FLV”option. Scroll down to the bottom, DO NOT hit the “Fix Duration” option, instead, go underneath that and hit the “File Contents” drop down arrow, there you will see “Fix Time”. Hit that! Don’t be alarmed if an error message pops up. It still works!
Now your flv. file should be fixed and seekable! But, when you convert to a different format it still looks messed up.

4. To convert it into a high quality file I record the flv. in real-time using the Sytexis DS Recorder. http://www.sytexis.com/ . Unfortunately, I had to pay for this program, and I have no regrets. This easy-to-use recording software is awesome! For higher quality, I like to use the ffdshow or the DivX 6.9.2. codec option the best. I use Stereo Mix as my source line for audio.

5. A good viewer to record with the Sytexis recorder is FLV Moyea. http://download.cnet.com/Moyea-FLV-E...-10912717.html . This free and easy program comes with an awesome FLV viewer and the FLV editor works perfectly for splicing and joining FLV video.

6. Now, you should have a nice quality avi. file. But, it’s not the best quality. To make it even better, drop that file into Windows Movie Maker on Windows XP and use the 2.1 Mbps NTSC option.

There, you are done! I told you it’s a pain in the ass lol.

If anyone knows a better way to convert myfreecam files please let me know!
