Is there a way to monitor/analyse data transport of live streams like digital radio?

Is there a way to monitor/analyse data transport of live streams like digital radio? I regularly capture mms asx rtsp etc.

I've been capturing (below soundcard threshold using Replay A/V 'software' method) for a year or so and periodically get plagued by disconnection events. I'm using Windows XP sp2.

I exchange support tickets with Replay regarding these events but nothing conclusive transpired. Looking at the event log created for each scheduled capture is somewhat confusing for a non-tech like me but perhaps someone here may have experience of 'reading' these types of logs.

I have taken the liberty of pasting in here an example of the data for one of these occasions where disconnection of the stream became apparent. The capture seemed to begin to have problems about half way down with ':Sat Mar 3 8:28:48 PM Recording stopped before scheduled end time." No errors were reported in the XP event viewer. Grateful for any thoughts on this problem.

Re: Is there a way to monitor/analyse data transport of live streams like digital rad

Due to network congestion you may experience problems when recording a stream. BBC offers lots of on-demand streams so if you have a choice between live and on-demand streams, record only the latter ones. There are at least two reasons for this. First of all when recording on-demand streams you may usually use multiple threads so the recording can be done much faster. And second of all disconnection problems won't worry you anymore.

Here are some more tips I suggest you to read:
Troubleshooting: Poor audio/video quality of a stream

Hi -

These breaks are due to network "hiccups". Usually this will result in separate files being created when one of these occurs.

You can also try changing to "Capture by Recording Audio Output" instead of "Capture by Downloading + Stream Capture". This will result in a continuous recording of what you hear from your PC's speakers. It's not as elegant as the "Capture by Downloading + Stream Capture" method, but it is anotherway to get the job done.

Also WM Recorder in the URL mode is very good at recording live Windows Media streams. It can reprocess Windows Media files fixing them and removing dead air.
