some problems ripping certain audio books

hi, certain audio books checked out from the library have traks that are only 1 min or so - resulting in around 90 tracks

when i rip these, i get the same track over and over after around track 50 or so,,,

the track numbers are correct (up to 90 or what ever, but the audio information is repeated from back around track 50.. .

When i play these in my little cd player, tracks 50 on up have the continuation of the book,,, but wen they are ripped, that information is not there and track 50 or what ever keeps repeating itself (same part of the book,,, but with the new track number so i never can hear the end of the cd...

CD's with tracks that are 4 min or so resulting in 20 tracks or so rip fine.. i have not been able to figure out why this is or how to work around it with CD's that had 1 min tracks.

any clues?

Each CD can be divided into a maximum of 99 tracks, but actually there could be more tracks if some tracks are subdivided into different index values (Usually a track will contain two indexes, index 0 marking the pause at the beginning of each track and index 1 for the main part of the track).

So 90 tracks is OK, although I don't remember any CDs with more than 30 tracks.

Most probably it is a bug of your CD ripper. I suggest you to try alternative software like free Exact Audio Copy.

Well, I think you are on the right track, the program i was using was DAK's audio ripper which is pretty cool becuase it will name the tracks with what ever i want and then preserve the ripped order...

i went to Music match (which just rips them as track 1,2,3 etc. and does not allow me to set a file name with the program adding track numers.. (that i know of)


so i basically made a folder for each CD in the book...

but music match did process the data properly and did not screw up the end tracks with the same audio data over and over again.

thanks for the advice.. why didn;t I think of that???

I just thought is was something to do with a CD that was not organized in normal tracks but rather a new track programmed every 45-50 seconds.

There are lots of free CD rippers you may use including Exact Audio Copy, CDex and WinLame.

If you like DAK's audio ripper I suggest you to contact the developer and tell him about the bug.
