Simultaneous recording and playback

Greetings--

I am looking for a solution that will allow me to begin playback (plus rewind and fast-forward) of the audio while still recording lengthy audio via webcast and telephone calls.

Previously I was able to accomplish through Total Recorder's split track feature. I would begin recording and every ten minutes (as determined through settings) it would save the first file and continue recording with a new file name. This would allow me to open the first file in a separate media player for playback while the rest of the program continued recording. Unfortunately this is not working well now with Windows 7 and we are seeking alternatives.

*Freeware is terrific, but stability and OS flexibility is a priority.
*Ideally this would be embeddable into our software.
*We are able to make this work for multiple stand alone licenses, however an ideal scenario would be a single program capable of recording and playback of 35+ simultaneous audio programs.

To me this should be simple in today's DVR day and age, however I have not found a stand alone audio recording program and am not able to sacrifice storage space for a/v recordings. All help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Simultaneous recording and playback

Do you want to use 35+ sound cards for recording 35+ simultaneous audio programs? Otherwise you will probably need a quality OS like Linux or Mac OS... at least I haven't seen any Windows applications that allow to record sound from a specific program.

What kind of webcasts do you want to record? HTTP .mp3 streams?

We need to remain flexible for all types of webcasts.

Obviously we are looking for a software alternative to all that hardware.

Re: Simultaneous recording and playback

Total Recorder will do this if you use background recording. You can play, rewind, do anything you want with the recording while the background recording continues. Unfortunately, many internet audio transmissions do not permit background recording. Many do, but many don't.
