Windows Media Player 10/11: How to determine IBX version (Windows XP)

If you wish to determine your own IBX version, you can follow these steps:
  1. Go to Start->Control Panel->Folder Options.
  2. Select the View tab.
  3. Check Show hidden files and folders
  4. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files
  5. Load Windows Explorer
  6. Determine the the path of the WM DRM folder (usually it is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM). It is stored in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DRM\DataPath
  7. Go to WM DRM folder.
  8. Right click Indivbox.key (may also be called Indiv001.key or Indiv002.key or something - pick the one with the highest number if so) and choose Properties.
  9. Click the Version tab.

If you use regedit.exe that comes with Windows XP:

Double click on the "DataPath" and you will see the path in the right column. Then click the "Cancel" button.

The DRM folder is hidden still...

I can access it via address bar but all files within are also hidden.

EDIT:
I can get to the DRM folders properties. I took a Screen shot:

As you can see the "Hidden" is checked and im unable to uncheck it. Any reason why?

You don't seem to have followed the 3rd and 4th items of the instruction.

Re: Windows Media Player 10/11: How to determine IBX version (Windows XP)

I was following the instructions. However I didn't know that the DRM folder was considered an operating systems folder and I had checked the "Hide protected Operating system files"

Anyways I can see it now, just had to uncheck it.

thanks for your help.

Re: Windows Media Player 10/11: How to determine IBX version

Hello,

I'm new, if I ask stupid questions then sorry. I have Vista and WMP11. I have installed the kit from what appears to be the latest link. I run drmbg and next to the Multi Scan box appears the details you suggest. When I click Multi Scan the name of the wmv appears in the appropriate box, the downloaded video starts to play but no drm2 folder is created in the active folder despite the box being ticked. Also, there is no cache folder in the DRM folder, I can't find any *.key files and nothing at all appears in the box adjacent to the Clear button. I have been to the MS website and personalised my copy of WMP. I have followed items 3 & 4 and selected Show Hidden and unticked the file extension box.

I'd be most grateful for any guidance you can provide.

Thank you.
