FairUse4WM Errors

FairUse4WM Error: filename.wmv does not appear to be licensed to you

If you encountered this error, you are very likely running into a "one play" license. FairUse4WM only works if you have a license and doesn't have the ability (... yet ... ) to ask the servers for a new license.

The solution to this is let FairUse4WM use the license instead of Media Player by acquiring but not playing the file.
  • Set your media player to ALWAYS PROMPT before acquiring a license. You should have this as your common setting anyway, because it will save you from folks using the DRM URL to deliver IE Exploits.
  • Open the file in Media Player and acquire the license, but DON'T click play
  • While the dialog is open you should be able to use FairUse4WM on that file. You can also exit Media Player (Click close) and collect licenses for multiple files.
A future version of FairUse4WM will probably include code to request the licenses from the server - especially if anyone happens to be handy with Wireshark and a debugger (The IBX encrypts part of the string with the server's public key - you'd need to "fix" that or otherwise extract the temporary key it creates).

This type of error may also appear if you either
  • didn't download the licenses for your media files from your media content provider or
  • downloaded it from another source such as p2p networks (e.g. eDonkey2000, Bittorrent) and it is an illegal copy of a media file.
If you downloaded your media files from a media provider like Yahoo! Music Unlimited, Napster, Unbox, etc. simply log into your account with that service and then attempt to play the media file in the Windows Media Player. It should automatically prompt you to download the licenses to play your audio or video files. After acquiring licenses you may try to use FairUse4WM again.

If you downloaded your audio/video file from some illegal source, you can't remove DRM protection from the media file, unless you can somehow get a license from the original content provider. We do not support such activity and we won't help you to get such licenses. Please do not ask about it in the forum.

DRM protection can only be removed if you have valid licenses. And it doesn't matter whether you use lossy or lossless DRM removal software like FairUse4WM. If you don't have valid licenses then your media content is useless.

Notice: Please note that DRM removal software are intended to be used to make fair-use backups only. Although these programs can remvoe DRM protection whether you've purchased or just rented the file, please do not abuse rental licenses.

FairUse4WM Error: filename.wma requires a different private key

If you encountered this error, try to go back to the first page and re-extract keys.

Also try to remove DRM from the test test content from fairuse4wm.com or ezdrm.com

FairUse4WM Error: 11.0.6000.6324 isn't supported yet.

If you encountered this error, then
your FairUse4WM is not compatible with IBX verison 11.0.6000.6324. Your IBX version is basically like a template to how the keys to play your audio/video files are created.

You may try to roll back your Windows Media Player to a previous version.

You may also try a virtual machine (either VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC). Just install Windows XP (assuming you have your Windows XP install/upgrade disc) on it and run the beta version of WMP 11 if your purchase requires it.

And NEVER UPGRADE your WMP. If your DRM-licensed media files require an upgrade to WMP 11 use WMP 11 beta 2 or WMP11 beta 3!

Windows Vista users please read the following forum thread: Help to remove DRM on Windows Vista.

FairUse4WM Error: IBX Components Do Not Appear...

If you encountered this error, you should visit Microsoft's web-site and individualize your Windows Media Player:
Open Internet Explorer and visit the following page:
services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite.

Click "Upgrade" and follow the process to complete the individualization process.

If the "Upgrade" button is not present, simply open any DRM protected content in Windows Media Player, and it will promt you to install the IBX components that you.

FairUse4WM Error: No keys loaded

If you encountered this error, you should simply obtain the DRM keys from your content provider where you purchased audio/video files.

To do this, simply log into your account with that service and then attempt to play your audio/video files in the Windows Media Player. It should automatically prompt you to download the licenses to play the music. After that you may try to use FairUse4WM again.

FairUse4WM does not work for me (Error: No keys loaded). Can anyone help?

FairUse4WM Error: Windows Error 80030002 while finding KID in V9 store

First of all you make sure you use the latest version of FairUse4WM At the moment it is v1.3 or 1.3 fix.

You may test Fairuse4wm on demo DRM protected files from fairuse4wm.com and ezdrm.com.

Note that some WM installations will have multiple ECC key-pairs, so you will likely have to "Extract Keys" using multiple licensed files. If you find a file that doesn't convert, try extracting keys wth it. Once your whole set of keys is extracted, you will no longer need to run WM per file.

To remove DRM protection from one-play license files:If you experience problem using Fairuse4wm, but you have files you could re-download and re-acquire licenses for, you could re-individualize and try Fairuse4wm again. Back up your C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM folder before re-individualizing, in case you need to restore it later.

After you re-individualize, try to unDRM your files first, before acquiring any new licenses. If it doesn't work, then try acquiring new licenses. You could also try dropping the files into the list in Fairuse4wm, right-clicking and getting the key info, and then using that with drm2wmv, but it won't work for me (no private key found for the files).
