How to capture/record from HDMI with HDCP?Is it possible to capture/record from HDMI with HDCP? I've tried Blackmagic Intensity Pro and it doesn't work (I can record from HDMI, but not with HDCP).

Re: How to capture/record from HDMI with HDCP?If you want to record from HDMI with HDCP you need to use the "Analog hole".
Convert HDMI to component video using HDFury2 and then record component video using your Blackmagic Intensity Pro. Unlike HDMI with HDCP, the video from component output is not encrypted, so it can be recorded. Since Intensity Pro has both HDMI and component inputs, you only need HDFury2 or any other HDMI to component video converter. Please note that HDFury2 is not cheap and there are reasons for that. If you just buy a cheap HDMI to Component Video + Stereo Audio AV Cable, you won't be able to record videos with Intentsity Pro using it. |

Re: How to capture/record from HDMI with HDCP?So you can use the following connections for recording HD videos from HDMI with HDCP sources:
[HDMI with HDCP Source] -> (HDMI cable) -> [HDFury2] -> (Component Cables) -> [Blackmagic Intensity Pro] Alternatively you can use Hauppage HD PVR which is connected to computer via USB 2.0 and has a built-in h.264 encoder: [HDMI with HDCP Source] -> (HDMI cable) -> [HDFury2] -> (Component Cables) -> [Hauppage HD PVR] -> (USB) -> [PC] |

Re: How to capture/record from HDMI with HDCP?There are cheaper alternatives to HDFury2 if you don't need 1080p.
For example, ViewHD HDMI to Ypbpr Component RGB / VGA Converter. The Converter uses a single HDMI source accessing to single VGA+SPDIF sink or single Component YPbPr+SPDIF sink. The Converter allows one HDMI device to be converted easily to one VGA+SPIDF or one YPbPr+SPIDF/R+L monitor or projector.

I am looking for a way to record HDCP or non HDCP TV shows, and then be able to display them at a later time on a HD TV. This would be for private use only : no DVD burning, no other duplication, no commercial use etc... If I understand correctly, with the proposed connections I would end up with the TV shows converted to non-HDPC MPEG records on a PC disk with, however, some loss of quality. These records could then be directly displayed on the PC , but what else would be necessary to display them on a HD TV ? |

Analog video coming from component video input is not protected by HDCP. You can compress it using any video codec (including an MPEG codec). The quality loss depends on a codec and its settings a lot. Quote:
My HDTV is DLNA compatible. I just connect it via ethernet to my PC, run a DLNA server software on my PC and stream video from my PC to my TV. Sometimes I also copy video files to my flash drive and insert it into my HDTV, then just play videos. You may also use a network media player for streaming video to your HDTV. Or you can connect your PC to your HDTV via HDMI. |

Re: How to capture/record from HDMI with HDCP?The right way to do this is to use an DVI-to-HDMI converter such as the AUD-2362 (about 60$).
Connect the HDCP encrypted signal from the source (HD set top box, play station, or the like...) to the input. Connect the output from the AUD-2362 to the input of a HDMI capture device, such as the BlackMagic Intensity PRO. The converter will strip away the HDCP encryption and you can do whatever you want with the resulting high-def stream. |
