How to run Opera 10 for Windows on Linux (like Ubuntu 9.10) with Wine

Wine lets you run Windows software on other operating systems like Linux and Mac OS. With Wine, you can install and run these applications just like you would on Windows.

How to install Opera for Windows on Linux like Ubuntu 9.10
  • Install Wine using Ubuntu Software Center, your favorite package manager or from Terminal:
    Code:
    sudo app-get install wine
  • Download Opera for Windows.
  • Right-click on the downloaded file and select "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader"
  • Install Opera (the same way you usually install any Windows software)

How to run Opera for Windows on Ubuntu 9.10
I was expecting to go to the launch Opera like any other Windows application from the Wine group:
  • Go to Applications -> Wine -> Programs -> Opera and select Mozilla Firefox
But Opera didn't create any shortcuts for me, so I launched it from the command line instead:
Code:
wine C:\\Program\ Files\\Opera\\opera.exe
