Rollback from WMP v11 Final to v11.0.5705.5043
Forward...the 'you' and 'your' in what follows is directed at whomever posted these instructions, not at whomever might be reading this or possibly posting replies. I would have liked to have used the specific name of the individual who posted these instructions, but none was given.
This process, which seems to be the last in the line of 'fixes' for FairUse4Wm v1.3, didn't work for me. And yes, I followed the instructions "word for word, letter by letter." So, this isn't whining, this is griping, 'cause your process doesn't seem to work correctly.
First off, I had to upgrade from v10 to v11. I admit, the upgrade is implied by the title of this section "FairUse4WM 1.3 fix downgrading Windows Media Player 11 Final to 11.0.5705.5043." It really should be explicitly stated though, if you're gonna keep to the whole "word for word, letter by letter" theme. To upgrade, I downloaded the latest version of WMP from Microsoft and installed.
Then I followed your steps. After installing the zipped-version of WMP, I checked and found v11.0.5721.5145. Thus, the rollback seems successful unless it's just cosmetic. The only thing I saw which bothered me was during the re-individualization process. Microsoft informed me that the security component needed upgrading. This wasn't unusual in itself but the pop-up was one I had not seen before. After re-individualization, I checked my DRM version and found v11.0.6000.6324. As we all know, this version doesn't work with FairUse4Wm v1.3.
Perhaps something changed since you last posted these instructions. It would be nice to see some note on the site telling people that v1.3 DOES NOT work with the final version of WMP v11.
Well, I'm off to re-install XP again. Hope this post helps some poor soul.
