Removing DRM from Windows Media Player (Zune) using Fairuse4wm and MS Virtual PC

So I decided today that I would install the Microsoft Virtual PC and then install Windows XP. After doing that I checked my DRM folder to find no files in there. I checked with FairUse4WM and it found no keys.

Next I went to the link provided by many people on this forum to individualize m computer as per Microsoft's website. Unfortunately, their website now requires that you install a component that will bring the IBX to version 11.0.6000.6324.

I am reinstalling Windows XP on the Virtual PC right now to try this whole process again. If anyone has any information for me that might help please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Microsoft Individualize DRM

I found the problem to be the installation of Windows Media Player 11 Beta that I downloaded with the FairUse4WM. Once I reinstalled Windows XP on the Virtual PC, I used that same Windows Individualization link with the already installed Windows Media Player 9. Now I have a key that is in the version 10 range but works with FairUse4WM.

The next step is for me to somehow install the Zune Software. I am not sure how I will be approaching this. I have heard that a fresh install of the Zune 2 software will update the IBX.

I know from experience though, that I have another desktop that began with the Zune 1.0 software on it and worked with FairUse4WM. Then I updated the software to version 2 when it was released and the FairUse4WM continues to work.

So my first attempt will be to install the Zune 1.0 software off of the disk that came with my Zune player. Hopefully updating it to work with version 2 to recreate how I updated my other desktop. Hopefully it will work. Input accepted!

Re: Microsoft Individualize DRM

I now have started back up my task today. I just installed Zune software version 1 with the network connection disable so that it would not update. I currently have it online and the IBX number is now 10.0.0.3646.

My next step I guess is to install the most recent Zune software to see if that changes the IBX.

Re: Microsoft Individualize DRM

I am wondering if I should be installing the first version of Zune v2 instead of the most recent. Then maybe updating after that. I have the latest downloaded but now I am looking for version 2.1.888.0 if anyone out there knows where I might be able to get it.

How to remove DRM from Zune Marketplace music

I have found the following about Zune Marketplace
Quote:
Songs downloaded from the Marketplace are restricted by DRM similar to yet slightly different from PlaysForSure DRM, meaning that songs purchased from PlaysForSure partners could not be playable in Zune Software or on the Zune device, although the reverse is true.

Several entities have criticized the Zune for not playing PlaysForSureContent, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Internally, Zune DRM is referred to as "9.1", differentiating itself from PlaysForSure DRM, which is version "9". While removal of PlaysForSure DRM has been facilitated with several tools, none would remove Zune DRM until July 14, 2007 when one of the tools ("FairUse4WM" [Windows Media]) was updated to support removal of the Zune DRM wrapper. As of September 6, 2007, an update from Microsoft has broken FairUse4WM once again, with the effect that anyone with the updated license cannot remove the DRM. Updating the Zune software to the most recent version (3.1 as of November 2008) will not affect previously functioning DRM components.
Is it possible to remove DRM protection with FairUse4WM or any other software?

Zune & FairUse4wm: it seems like Zune will only work with WMP11's latest release

Has anyone gotten both Zune & FairUse4WM to work yet ? I have no problems getting WMP 9 & or 10 on my PC but it seems like Zune will only work with WMP11's latest release. Which makes it difficult to re get my WMV Licenses

Is It Impossible To Remove Zune DRM ?

I have installed Windows Media Player 11.0.5705.5043 & IndivBox.key 11.0.5497.6285 & FairUse works fine. But when I open any version of Zune the IndivBox.key updates to the newest version no matter what I do & then FairUse stops working. I even tried copying & saving the original DRM Folder with 5043 so that I can try deleting the new DRM Folder & replacing it with the old one with Zune still running so that FairUse can work & oddly enough FairUse does still work if you simply replace folders with the right IndivBox.key version but the problem is I can not delete & replace the Keys while Zune is running & I am doing this on a newly reformatted PC with originally Windows Media Player 9 & no matter what when you load Zune it updates to the newest Key. I guess I am out of luck with this

Zune 3.1 seems to force you to install 4.0
