How to record SplashStream video stream (Windows Media, rtsp://)

I'd like to record SplashStream programming for later viewing. I subscribe to a training network that broadcasts over SplashStream, but the broadcasts I'm most interested in are at a time when I cannot be at the computer.
How do I find out what format they are using, to determine what software might be able to record the programs to my HD?
Thanks, Bruce

Recording SplashStream

For those of you who don't know, SplashStream is a computer program that allows you to watch TTV (Traders TV Network) and other programming on your PC.

Can I record TTV programs on my DVR?
Here is the answer from the official FAQ
A. Yes! In fact, we provide you with a free upgrade to a digital video recorder that can record up to 100 hours of your favorite TTV programs and training broadcasts.

So at least you can record TTV programs from a satellite.

But we're interested in recording something that our SplashStream can deliver to the PC... Hmmmmm... I don't have a subscription so it is hard to advise.

Let's delve into the FAQ again...
What are the computer system requirements for SplashStream?
A. SplashStream Minimum System Requirements:
Windows 2000 or Windows XP; 500MHz Intel Pentium processor or equivalent; 256MB of RAM; broadband internet (DSL or cable modem); 16-bit sound card and speakers; video card; Windows Media Player 9 or above.

OK, we see Windows Media Player here. It means that they could probably use Windows Media streams. Although they may use something else. And they may use Windows Media streams with proprietary protocol.

What shall you do? I suggest you to try WM Recorder (the most powerful Windows Media stream recorder) in the Proxy or/and Ada mode. It is free to try.

In case of a failure use Packet sniffer and URL Snooper software like free Project URL Snooper to get URLs used by SplashStream. Post them here so that we can analyse more.

And in case of non-recordable and DRM protected streams, we can always use Screen capture software

And I suggest you to contact TTV support and request the recording feature in the SplashStream.

Podcasts. Have you seen them?

And please look to the video podcasts for the financial community. Available at the end of every trading day, The TTV traderCast recaps TTV’s live broadcasts. It summarizes the day’s markets, discusses the financial headlines, and touches on some of the best trade candidates our viewers and our analysts identified during the trading day.

streaming URL

I believe the streaming URL is:

rtsp://bla-bla-bla.g.lm.akamaistream.net/bla-bla-bla (this is not the real URL, it is an example that the URL can easily be found)

You can easily find it with any URL Finder software.

I have the same problem bing on the west coast and trying to view programs from 6AM east coast time.

Hope this helps and there is a solution. Thanks!

Recording Windows Media RTSP stream from SplashStream

Thanx to the forum members that prefer to stay anonymous we have found that TTV streams Windows Media videos through the RTSP protocol.

Besides having a proprietary player software SplashStream doesn't use DRM protection or even password protection for its streams. It is absolutely crazy for a paid stream, but the users should be happy

But I won't post any URLs here that can easily be found if you really have a paid subscription. Let's support the service so that it can include DRM protection in the future versions

As for Windows Media RTSP stream, it can easily be downloaded by many stream recorders including my favorite Windows Media stream recorder - WM Recorder.

p.s. It should be pretty legal to record this stream, 'coz the service allows you to record sat broadcasts and this is just another way to record your favorite TV shows.
