How to record drm protected streamsI plan to purchase a subscription to a site that has drm protected streams if I can figureout how to save them to my hard drive so I can view them while off-line. The WM Recorder
user manual states that it cannot record drm protected streams and I can't test it on the site to be sure because I haven't bought the subscription yet because one of my requirements is to be able to view the streams off-line. Can FairUse4WM capture streams and remove the drm from them or does it only work on a file that is already on your hard drive? I don't even care about removing the drm, I just want to be able to save the drm stream to my hard drive for when I'm off-line. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. |

Re: How to record drm protected streamsFairUse4WM doesn't work with the latest versions of the Windows Media Player. And as you can see you may see in the "Remove copy-protection" forum it has some requirements such as WMP version not higher than 11.0.5705.5043. However even old version of WMP doesn't guarantee that it will work for you. And video services, digital music services sometimes force you to upgrage your WMP to the latest version.
Different types of licenses can be used by media services so it is hard to tell whether or not it will be possible to remove DRM after recording with WM Recorder. You can always count on screen video capture software when removing DRM protection from video files. There is one more problem you may face. Removing DRM protection from media files that you don't own (such as from subscription based services) is beyond making fair use backups so it will be much harder to get any help on removing such protection. Re: How to record drm protected streamsThanks Stream Recorder!
I found some screen video capture software that I figured would do the trick but the files get to be quite large, guess I could adjust the compression and codec settings, but figured that there had to be a better way. So concerning FairUse4WM, the site only requires that I use WMP 9 or higher so I won't have a WMP problem but I'm still not clear on one thing "Can FairUse4WM capture streams?" Could you please clarify this for me? So subscribing to a site doesn't give me FairUse rights to the content on the site... That stinks. I need to gain additional knowledge for my job so I found some CBT's that I really like, but the vendor charges several hundred $$ more when you buy the media instead of just subscribing and where I would be doing most of my studying is where there isn't an Internet connection or it would be a no brainer. |

Re: How to record drm protected streamsQuote:
Just download the test content from ezdrm.com and fairuse4wm.com and try whether it works for you or not. I don't see how you can remove DRM protection from a media stream with FU4WM. Although you may record a DRM protected stream and try to remove its DRM protection. Depending on a license type it will be possible or not. FU4WM only works if you have a DRM protected file with a valid license so that you can play it on your PC without any problem. |
