Recording Cable/Satellite HD streams

Hi,
first off I love the forums, esp the DRM topics :)

Now..I dont know if this is the right forum, but...Is there any way to record a HD stream from a cable/satellite source?

Pretty much...Can you record a HD signal from component video signals or HDMI?

I know HDMI is probably out of the question b/c of encryption, but is there any tool to record HD using component?

I found Hauppage HD PVR, does anyone know anything about it?

It HAS to be possible, i mean there are rips of HD movies and shows from cable channnels online.

Thanks

HDTV can currently be digitally recorded by the following ways:
....from four potential sources:
  • Cable DTV
  • Digital Television (DTV)
  • Direct Broadcast Satellite DTV (DBS)
  • C/Ku Band Satellite DTV

Thanks, I guess the Hauppage HD-PVR is the only thing that can do what I want it to. Too bad its $250.

I use Elgato EyeTV HD attached to my Mac over USB 2.0. It allows to record 720p and 1080i videos. And it supports iPhone and iPad formats.

Why not try Q-Box II? It works perfectly and costs below 100$.
DVB-S2, MPEG4, HDTV, it won't let you down.
