HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media Player)I have a request + something that might help you all rolled into one...
Download drmdbg + freeme2 (2008/01/01) Code:
http://sharebee.com/6042e1bc P.S. As always, scan for viruses (yes, I'm asking you to scan a file that I posted for viruses). I know that I'm trustworthy, but you don't. Stay safe. =) That's the "something that may help you". Now here's my request... Can someone (preferably someone who hasn't even individualized his/her computer yet) please follow the instructions step-by-step and tell me if everything works out? I want to make sure that I didn't miss a step or write down a step incorrectly. I already did the first few steps a while back, so I can't verify that they are correct. Thanks, and enjoy... At the same time. x,X Oh, and I take credit for nothing other than the instructions. Even then, you're free to post the instructions wherever (with or without credits... I don't really mind) you want. For those who already have drmdbg and FreeMe2... Quote:

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaIBX file can reside on a different disk. And it definitely resides in a different folder in Windows Vista:

Also, I'm not sure about drmdbg auto-detecting the IBX files. I think it did it for one of my computers, but it didn't do it for my other one. (Copying and pasting that block of text into the ini file fixed it for me) I'll add this information into the instructions... =) (Erm... Do you want credits? I'm just checking, since some people really want credit for everything.) |

If you really wanna help this web-site, you can click on the "BOOKMARK" button below the posts and add this and any other web-page you like to social bookmarking services. It really helps a lot. p.s. Please do not change the markup of your post with instruction. It is much easier to read it this way! |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaAfter extracting license keys with drmdbg, you get the drm2-i.key file. If you rename it to drm2.key and copy to the FreeMe2 folder, you don't really need to copy SID and paste it.
FreeMe2 has automation tools (for drmdbg + freeme2). You may wanna write other instructions that will use them. Althouth they will be pretty short :) |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaHello, I got here by googling "unprotect drm wmv", because I have some movies that I had bought a "lifetime" license to use, but then, the company did something to make the license not able to validate, so I can't watch them.
I thought that the process you described here would enable me to make them so that the drm license check would simply not occur, but I think I now understand that I have to have a valid license to enable the process to run, and show me the "key", which I can then paste into the prompt in the Freeme2.bat script. So, it's kind of a catch-22. I can remove the DRM check if I can first pass the DRM check, right? So, it looks like I'm still not going to get past that. |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaMac2492- I followed your instructions but could not get the "DRM2.key." This may be stupid question but what am I supposed to put in the "DRM2 DIR" box? Is that my problem? here a a couple of key facts:
1. My system is Individualized 2. My paths are as follows in the drmdbg.ini (And i did check this using show hidden folders and files): Code:
[IndivBoxKey] 4. my WMV DIR points to the folder containing the drm locked music 5. when i hit multiscan the box above the clear button fills in with the song but the box to the left of the clear box remains blank. 6. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. 7. I have read through several forum threads but have not figured it out yet... |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaQuote:
By default, it is set to to folder that drmdbg is located. Also, the option to create a separate folder for the "DRM2.key" is enabled by default. Let's say that drmdbg is located in C:\drmdbg. By default, the DRM2.key file would go inside C:\drmdbg\DRM2\DRM2.key. In the "simplified kit", I made a very simple adjustment to the ini file that disabled the "Create DRM2 Dir" option by default. Thus, the key would simply appear in the same folder as drmdbg. If the file isn't being created at all, then the problem might be that drmdbg just isn't finding the keys. (Which is why it doesn't export anything...) As for your problem... Some people have been reporting that Yahoo! Music isn't working with drmdbg. One user reported that FairUse4WM 1.3 works for some reason. Do you use Yahoo! Music? |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaHey guys
Im having trouble playing some movies I got that are .wmv or protected. Im following Mac2492's instructions but I cant seem to find the individualization key on my computer. Ive unchecked the "Hide protected operating system files" in the control panel but still cant seem to find it anywhere. Is there any other locations I should look or isnt the file being created on my computer? Im running Windows XP. EDIT: Its putting in a directory path for the individualization key in the box next to Multi scan, that I dont think exists. Then when i go to play the movie I get an error from drmdbg saying "ReadProcessMemory_error". Is this cause I cant find the individualization key? Thanks Gizza |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaGizza, have you individualized your system?
If not, start your Internet Explorer and navigate to services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite/en/indivit.asp. |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaYes I have, did it twice to be sure and even restarted my computer.
EDIT: Just to be clear, how long does it take to individualize? I click upgrade and it says: Progress Status: Upgrading Security Components... It says that for about 3 secs then goes to Progress Status:The security components have been upgraded successfully. To play protected files, restart your digital media player. If you cannot play protected files after restarting your digital media player, restart your computer. Is the DRM folder ment to be created in the All Users folder once its finished? Cause its still not there |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaOk, after searching the net and reading similar problems I found my DRM folder.
However its hidden, so the only way I can get to it is by using the address bar. The folder and all files in it are hidden... No idea why, I have show Hidden files and folders selected in the folder option yet I still cant see this folder and its files... Any ideas? |

I am a Rhapsody subscriber, and would like to use my tunes on my non-Plays4sure (or whatever it's called now) Blackberry Pearl.. I'm running Windows Vista, and I have followed the instructions carefully (several times) and can not seem to generate a DRM2.key file.. Anyone out there having any luck stripping their tunes as I am trying to do??

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaHello,
I believe I am having the same problem as two other posters. I am trying to strip drm from a BBC wmv downloaded into iplayer. Your instructions seem to be very clear and I believe I have followed them. When I run drmdbg I do not get a drm folder created nor do I get a .key file created in the folder which contains drmdbg. I have pasted some screen shots into a Word document and hope they will enable you to either confirm what I have done is right or demonstrate what a twat I am (I'll happily be a twat if it leads to a solution). You can get the Word file from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?bzzl4c04mjs Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. The screen shots show that I have copied the original downloaded wmv and renamed it copy.wmv but since that I have also tried it with the original file but with no success. Many thanks. [edit] I've checked and can confirm that drmv2clt.dll exists in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ I've done a search of the hard disk for *.key and nothing is found. |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaHello
I have totaly same problem as the roadcone and many others. I know how the process should work becouse IT DOES work in my XP instalation but not with Vista Ultimate. They key is loaded to drmdbg and WMP is loaded (version of WMP is 11.0.6000.6344 and key version is 11.0.6000.7000) but after attemp to multiscan it simply opens only 1st file in scanned firectory and WMP starts to play it. Anybody has idea how to solve it? thanks for all the work guys! |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaI have encountered a few problems and I was wondering if anyone could give some assistance. I am running Vista and I have located and specified the paths of the key and the dll file. When I open the debugger the Windows Media player does open. I put my protected file into the drm removal kit directory and I use this same directory as my WMV directory. I also have my DRM2 directory set to save files into the drm removal kit directory. The problem I am having is that after I have done all of this, the keys do not seem to be loading. I have tried hitting the Multi Scan button even though the keys do not properly load. When I do this the file does begin to play, but the drm2 directory and drm2.key file iis not created. If anyone could give some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaI've tried to use previous versions of drmdbg without luck
I kept getting "VirtualAllocEx error" when I opened the program I downloaded the latest version to give it another shot and after messing around with it I was eventually able to have drmdbg find my.key and the .dll file. Then it would pop up with with an error saying WMP and some weird characters...I assume that meant it wasn't able to load WMP. I tried it a few times then I started getting the "VirtualAllocEx error" again Now I can't get past that. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the version of Vista I'm running. Anyone had luck with Vista Ultimate in 64 bit mode when running DRMDBG? I'd really like to get this working. I can't find anyone having this problem though. |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaQuote:
Also it will not make the drm2 file. It will attempt to play file, but the pop up that says License Acquisition is a 404 page. Its a brand new install, I installed Media Player 9, and copied one drm music file over to it. Any ideas? |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaWell, today is everyones lucky day. I was having the same problem as a few of you in this thread. I had everything set up right, and drmdbg would open windows media player and play the song, but it wouldnt find the key.
I read in another thread that while the song is playing you right click on it and go to find album info, and it would freeze and you would find the sid. I tried this and absolutely nothing happened when I clicked on find album info (this is the case of all of my songs for some reason). So I did some messing around and found that if you right click and go to properties, then click on the media usage rights tab, it will freeze windows media player. After it freezes, the sid shows up in drmdbg, and the key file is created. The person who posted the find album info method only said that the sid would be in the box, so I assumed that a new window would open showing the sid and other info. This is not the case, he meant the bottom box of drmdbg. So the method is:

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media Planone of this da** stuff works under Windows Vista!!!! period!!! you Geniuses need to learn to test your solutions properly!!!!

One little change..Okay after 2 hours of clicking on DRMDBG over and over after having modified the ini file I came up with a solution that worked immediately! :)
Original: (on Windows XP) INTO Code: [IndivBoxKey] path=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\Cache\Indiv01.key [drmv2clt] path=C:\WINDOWS\system32\drmv2clt.dll Change: (on Windows XP) INTO Code: [IndivBoxKey] path="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\Cache\Indiv01.key" [drmv2clt] path=C:\WINDOWS\system32\drmv2clt.dll Those quotes made it so that my DRMDBG actually pics up the IBX info when it starts up!:p Good luck!:D |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaI had the same problem and finally got it fixed.
I'm using Vista. Goto C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM and delete all of the contents. Goto your drmdbg folder and delete drmdbg.ini. Play the movie your having problems with. Media Player should install a new license file. Close Media Player. Fire up drmdbg and hit the Multiscan folder. (Make sure your video is in the same folder first) Double click the video in the list if it doesn't start automatically and BANG....you're fixed. This worked for me. SWEET! |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaThis stuff seemed perfect until it simply stops processing my wmv file right in the middle...
I have a movie file of 1.2GB. I got the drm2.key perfectly with drmdbg, I started the latest version of freeme2 (0.4) after 435MB of freed data, I got a memory allocation error ! "memory allocation failed in handle_copy" My HD has 2GB place left, and I have a 1GB RAM, running windows XP SP3. Any help regarding this issue? Thanks! Bill |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaI have a problem. I use FreeMe2 0.4+drmdbg. I have Windows Media Player is 9.00.00.3250, Indivbox.key 10.0.0.3646, Windows XP SP2.
When I start drmdbg (with edited .ini), WMP starts too and goes to the Internet to download the license. But I have the license files in DRM folder already. drmdbg doesn't extract SID code for my .wma. Freeme writes the following: Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\master>"C:\Documents and Settings\drm removal kit\Free |

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaSometimes when you go to Media Usage Rights, the song doesn't switch, and the box in drmdbg does not fill in.
How to fix this: if you move the song it gets stuck on out of the DRM2 folder, and into the DRM_Removal folder (next to drmdbg.exe), and hit MultiScan, then it should to work. |
Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media PlaOK, so i was having problems. It just wasn't populating the sid know it is. Well it is about 50/50. But I put the drm2.key in the same folder as freeme but it still asks for the sid to be inputed.
Anyone have any ides *Note* I was running some test and I noticed that if I successfullt have gotten the sid once it wont do it again. Even if I delete the original files and redo it all over again. Any ideas on this. |
