Try to ask the developer of skindle.

You can also try to use other tools, for example: MobiDeDRM.py.

I checked skindle and a few things that are different for sure:

The kindle.info is located here:
Code:

/Users/x/Library/Application Support/Amazon/Kindle For Mac/storage/.kindle-info
string_32 is the same, but string_64 is different. The correct string is:
Code:

"ZB0bYyc1xDdW2wEV3Ff7KkPpL8UuGA4gz-Tme9Nn_tHh5SvXCsIiR6rJjQaqlOoM"
From there I just have no clue what they use instead of CryptUnprotectData. The other info was available using lsof/opensnoop and strings.

Try to use the following:
DeDRM AppleScript for Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6

I just downloaded a book from Amazon to my pc (windows xp) and I am trying to remove the drm (with skindle) without success. This is a replica of what I get on the screen:

Code:

skindle -i xxx.azw -o xxx.mobi
Attempting to locate kindle.info
Found kindle.info location
Using UserName = "Void"
Using SystemDrive = "C:\"
Using VolumeSerialNumber = "NNNNNNNNNN"
Device PID: XXXXNXXX
PID for xxx is: YYYyYyyY
Didn't find PID magic numbers in record
Found a DRM key!
634702b65r3829g3
Parse Error : Failed payload read of record color: 1 offset 0x4de592:0x0

and then windows sends a pop-up telling me skindle has made an error and has to close. This has happened several times already.

Anybody knows what I'm doing wrong, or how this could be solved?

Thank you very much in advance,

Simon

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this?

I've got the same problem (with a slightly different code at the end "offset 0xcd24fc:0x0"). I've got a Sony Reader and bought a book that was only available from Kindle Store.

Seeing as beating the drm of Adobe Digital Editions had been so easy i just assumed that i would be able to figure this out too. It's been driving me up the wall tho!

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I am running skindle from the command prompt on a Vista machine.

Ted

What do you mean by "using this"? DeDRM AppleScript for Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6? unswindle? topazscripts?

I've tried multiple tools (Skindle, Unswindle etc) and I'm getting partially corrupted mobi output. I can't seem to find where to post a bug report so I'm posting here:

Check this thread for more details:

Odd partially corrupted output: AZW to MOBI

I am able to convert the ebook, according to the:
Success! Enjoy!

Done.

entries as stated by the skindle gui tool. After that I am able to open the new file in Kindle for PC but cannot open it with mobireader. It gives me a "Error while adding this file to the library" and then a "file corrupt" error. Any thoughts? Thanks.

What format?
Can you convert your ebooks with Calibre?

Hello! New to this forum :)

I'm running skindle on my topaz prc ebook, this is the output:

Quote:

PID for ______________ is: RP35Qa/U
Parse Error : Invalid Record, record dkey not found
No dkey record found
An error occurred, unable to process input file!
Anyone know why this is happening?

Can't find anything about your error. Try to use MobiDeDrm, unswindle, topazscripts, DeDRM AppleScript for Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 instead.

Re: skindle - remove DRM from KindleForPC ebooks (mobi and topaz)

I have a similar problem to others, but have not seen the solution. I have tried skindle (3 Jan 2010 version) without success in both Windows XP and Ubuntu OS. Also tried unswindle (24 Jul 10 version). I have an azw book purchased from Amazon that I wish to read on my Kobo.

I downloaded the K4PC app on 8 Mar 2011 and got an older version from a torrent file, and neither are working with unswindle.

OK, more technical detail if anyone is out there. For unswindle, I am using python 2.6 and the most recent version of unswindle that I can find, and get the error message: 'error: unsupported version of K4PC.'

For Skindle, I get the message: 'Attempting to locate kindle.info' and then I get the Microsoft crash notice. When I choose not to send a message to MS, the command line entry: 'Found Kindle.info location' is made, but the program stops.

I have tried Skindle in ubuntu using the same syntax as above, but I get the message 'command not found' and some suggestions to download a package; it doesn't appear that Skindle is compiled to run on Ubuntu/linux environment.

Can someone please help? This is annoying me to no end...

Thanks

Download DRM Tools Archive:
ebook DRM removal tools archive

Try a Calibre plug-in first. If it doesn't work, try other K4PC DRM removal tools.

Open command prompt and use cd command to go to a directory where skindle.exe resides.

But I recommend to use something newer. See my previous post.

Sorry, I got lost....

1. downloaded Skindle
2. downloaded Kindle4PC app
3. registered this app as a user which bought a book
4. copid azw-file to skindle folder (name is short and without spaces)

... skindle cannot find kindle.info :(

Download the latest version of DRM Tools Archive. Then try to use the Calibre DRM removal plug-in for Kindle4PC ebooks first.

Re: skindle - remove DRM from KindleForPC ebooks (mobi and topaz)

Hi,

is there something wrong with Skindle? I used it with no problem before and now it simply doesn't remove DRM anymore so I can't convert it with Calibre. (Calibre keeps giving me message that the file is DRM protected) even after I RUN-ed it with Skindle.

Thanks for any help!
