Powerline adapters for server?

I want to setup a photo and video server on an old computer. The problem is that my office is upstairs in the back of the house, and the router is downstairs in the front. Wi-Fi is the obvious way to go but Wi-Fi might not have the range and speed I think I need. I found the 2 Powerline adapters for $50, which is less than a good 11n router.

Powerline seems to offers stability and speed for my situation. Are there any other advantages of Powerline? Is it safe?

Anyone have an real world experience with Powerline, especially if they used it for a server?
