The latest versions of mplayer use the same librtmp library as
rtmpdump.

rtmp streams are more complicated than you may think of them. Sometime it is enough just to find an rtmp:// URL properly(!), but in many cases you will need to specify additional parameters.

If you know how to download with
rtmpdump, you should be able to watch with VLC and MPlayer.
