Play BBC iPlayer over LAN: will installing Windows Media Encoder break FU4WM?

Afternoon all,
I've noticed it's quite easy to break FU4WM1.3 fix 2, by messing with Windows Media Player. Updating WMP breaks it badly.

I want to play my BBC iPlayer content over the LAN to my Pinnacle Showcentre 200 (it handles the DRM, bt something else fails) so at the moment, I'm trying to re-encode the WMVs (to WMVs).

So, my question is, will my installing Windows Media Encoder break FU4WM?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

You don't need Windows Media Encoder to play DRM-protected Windows Media files and to remove DRM-protection with FairUse4WM.

I'm have no idea whether Windows Media Encoder will have any impact on FairUse4WM or not. But IMHO it is impossible to re-encode DRM-protected videos without removing DRM protection from them (unless you wanna capture videos from screen).

Ah, perhaps I didn't make myself clear.
I've used FU4WM to remove the DRM from the iPlayer files, the problem is some hidden trickery in the iPlayer WMV that prevents it being played on a Pinnacle Showcentre 200. I'm hoping that re-encoding it might remove said trickery, but I'm worried installing the Windows Media Encoder will break FU4WM and give that 'unable to get keys' error.

You can always try to use some other audio/video converter like freeware MediaCoder.

Or you can install a new copy of Windows onto a virtual machine like Microsoft Virtual PC or WMWare and don't worry about the updates on that copy of Windows.

I've got another encoder that I'll try, River Past's Video Cleaner, but I'll also try the one you recommend.
I've installed WME on another machine, but it's a hassle doing the re-encoding across the network AND the machine it's on is the PC that serves the files for the Pinnacle and WME maxes out the CPU making the Pinnacle all jumpy so I'll be keen to try other methods.
Thanks for your help, it's appreciated.

OK. Here's the answer.
I decided to take a gamble and install Windows Media Encoder on the same machine that runs FU4WM.
It all still works just fine.
I hope this might be of some use to others in the future.
