Maybe they've improved ... I've had good results
I've used Aimersoft's DVD Backup and Video Converter for years and both have worked just fine. The video converter does not have a lot of options for improving video quality, but to be honest I don't ask for much — some occasional color correction is about all I need it for. When I converted my DVD collection of more than 11,000 shows DVD Backup always come through for me (with the exception of Disney disks). I used a Blu-ray burner to read the disks, however, I think that made a major difference as when I tried other apps to do the backups, they did not work regardless of what hardware I used. I should also note that I use an iMac. I used a PC notebook for a short time, but the apps proved somewhat unreliable after awhile and I got tired of dinking around with the PC. I also convert to mp4s. A couple of times I tried AVIs and the sound was out of sync. Since the Mac seemed happier with mp4s and mov documents I just stuck with them. Hopefully, I've offered some food for thought and I'd say that the company falls under the heading of "To each is own." Your situation and needs could be so different from mine that this means nothing to you; however, maybe it was just what you needed to hear. Good luck with your search and hope you find the app that works for you.
