softwares that can remove DRM and convert DRM

In this article, I will discuss softwares that can remove DRM and convert DRM. DRM stands for digital rights management. It claims to protect digital media from piracy. However, DRM does nothing to stop copyright pirates. The main purpose of DRM is financial. It prevents lawful user from making back up of purchased music and enjoying music on third-party players. It may also cause some security issues, because DRM controls your computer, automatically connects to Internet.

I prefer to remove DRM from my purchased music so I can enjoy my music without any restriction. Here are some software that can help you remove DRM and convert DRM:

Daniusoft Digital Media Converter

I’m using this application to convert DRM files now. It can perform all types of conversion including video to video, video to audio, and audio to audio. It is the only program I have tried that can remove DRM without recording and the conversion speed is pretty good. Recommend.

Tunebite

I used to use Tunebite before I found Digital Media Converter. Supporting many formats is its advantage. Its disadvantage is it can only remove DRM by recording, so the conversion speed is slow and I can’t do anything else on my computer during the conversion process.

Soundtaxi

Another software that uses the recording method. I think there is a bug in SoundTaxi. It starts converting even though the convert button is not clicked.

Note Burner

NoteBurner acts as a virtual CD burner. It adds an icon to the system tray and can only be used within a player.

In summary, SoundTaxi and Tunebite work by recording while Digital Music Converter directly converts. The results of this difference are Digital Music Converter needs less time to finish converting and you can perform other tasks when using it. Tunebite and Digital Music Converter both support many formats, however, Tunebite needs lame_enc.dll to support mp3 or it can't work with mp3.

Ok, it’s done.( maybe it’s too short, I’m sorry I didn’t have much time to modify or perfect it which only could make you to get a simple image of them ). For personal opinion, I like Digital Music Converter a bit more. But whatever, hope you can have much more fun with them.

Are the any proofs that it doesn't record when removing DRM? If yes, it would be interesting to know how it really works!

I don't really trust Aimersoft, Daniusoft and other Wondershare brands, becase they are promoted by spam.

Re: Lossy DRM removal software: SoundTaxi, Tunebite, NoteBurner, freeTunes, MuvAudio

DRM is still a major problem in the online music and video industry. I hate DRM, and I’m sure 99% of the people reading this agree with me - DRM sucks. The only benefit is for the record companies, so that their music cannot be shared on file sharing/BitTorrent websites. It brings the user absolutely no benefits, and many drawbacks - including limiting what you can do with your music/video in almost every way possible. Whether it’s putting the file on your mobile phone, or wanting to use it on more than five computers.

Re: Lossy DRM removal software: SoundTaxi, Tunebite, NoteBurner, freeTunes, MuvAudio

I know there are so many downloading software which have DRM tech like Napster, Rhapsody, limewire, iTunes, bearshare.......
So I don't like DRM at all, it's so frustrating when can't do what you want with the music you bought from internet, like transfer and share it with my friends or convert it to other formats which can be played by other devices. And it's not easy to find a good converter to help me with those problem.

Remove DRM from protected WMA

What is DRM? Why do we remove DRM WMA?
Have you ever downloaded music from Windows Media Player, iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, Spiral Frog? These popular music download programs among the music fans always come with a disgusting word - "DRM".

DRM (Digital Rights Management) - The anti consumer copy protection that prevents you from using music in a way that suits you. For example, if a WMA you downloaded from WMP(windows media player) that has DRM, you can only play it back on a compatible device, so if every piece of music had DRM on it you would need to buy the same track on CD to listen in your CD player or car, as an iTunes download to play on your iPod, as a ms store download to play on your Zune etc, but since you paid for it once you shouldn’t be forced to pay for it again and again and again, remove the DRM and you can play it on your phone, iPod, Zune, PSP, CD player, pc, and anything else that you can listen to music on.

How to remove DRM from WMA?
I got a few methods listed below:
  • Re-record
One of the most common and simple technology is recording the DRM protected WMA then use an ordinary converter to convert the recorded and unprotected files. Because this technology is easy to realized and easy to support more DRM formats besides protected WMA it is welcomed by most of the DRM converters like the Soundtaxi, etc.
But there are some disadvantages for those programs.
    a. The conversion speed won’t get much improvement due to the long recording process.
    b. Much audio and video quality could be lost during the recording process.
Luckily DRM removal software like SoundTaxi and Tunebite works much faster than in real time.
  • Burn and rip
Actually, there is a common free method to remove DRM WMA with 2 steps:
Step 1 Burn the protected WMA to a CD
Step 2 Rip them off to your computer, then the DRM should be removed from the WMA files.
But it’s not very convenient and may wear out your CR-ROM. And windows media player can only burn and rip the WMA (or you will need DVD copy and DVD ripper for other formats).
However you can use a virtual CD burner and ripper Note Burner. It works much faster and you don't even need a real CD/DVD drive.
  • Hook
Hook is another new and more complicated technology which can be used to remove the DRM from protected WMA files. Compared to recording process, these sorts of programs have much higher conversion speed, but it’s hard to make it support some DRM formats with new and lofty encrpytion tachniques.
And as far as I know, Daniusoft was one of its supporters. Daniusoft Digital Media Converter can remove DRM from protected WMA files, it also supports other formats conversion and audio extraction from WMV.
Ok, Hope you can get some useful resources from this article (How to remove DRM from protected WMA should not annoy you anymore).
If you have any suggestion or want to do some modification please feel free to contact me.
Remove DRM from your favorite music to release you music life.
Have Fun.

How to remove DRM protection of iTunes m4p songs and wma audio files

You may have purchased many songs from iTunes online store. It will be ok if you just play it on your computers with iTunes, or on your iPod. However, you may need to insert the music in a Power Point presentation, listen it on your mp3 player or set it as background music of your website or other legal personal usage, and you will find you are not allowed.

All the iTunes music files are m4p format, it’s restricted. Is there any way to remove this DRM protection and convert the iTunes songs to widely used mp3 files?

There are some ways that can achieve your goal.
  • In iTunes, these DRM protected songs can’t be burned to mp3 CD disc, however, you can burn them to audio CD, and then use an audio ripper to rip the tracks from the CD. It may be a waste of CD discs when you have plenty of songs which need to be converted.
  • Use the program named Tunebite (Soundtaxi, MuvAudio ). It records the sounds with a real audio device, however, you need to import lame.exe to convert the files to mp3 files.
  • Use the program named Note Burner. Noteburner will install a virtual CD burner on your computer, what you need to do is just to set it as default CD burner in iTunes. Open iTunes, operate by Edit --> Preference --> Advanced --> burning, and set Noteburn Virtual CD_RW as your CD burner. If you want to preserve the tags information, including artist, song title, album name, track number etc, you need to check the option “include CD text”. Not only m4p files can be converted, but also audio book in m4p format or AA format can be converted to mp3 in iTunes with Noteburner virtual CD burner.
So you can finish all the jobs as the first method within this software and save many CD discs.

Noteburner can also remove the DRM protection of wma audio files. In this case, you need to use Noteburner with Windows media player, and what you need to do is the same as in iTunes.
  • Use the program named Notecable. This program can also convert DRM protected iTunes songs and wma audio files. It works as a virtual sound card recording audio streams in background. The advantage of Notecable is that it’s very easy to use. Click “add” button to add the files you need to convert, click “settings” button to choose output format, bitrate, output folder, then click “convert” button to start conversion. If you want convert at a faster speed, you can click settings button and adjust the “convert acceleration” bar.

FairUse4wm and lossy DRM removal software

Just a note on FairUse4WM and additional options... it is a solid program that does exactly what it says it does. The major advantage is its speed. I also use Daniusoft's Digital Media Converter Pro and this is an extremely solid tool as well and well worth the $39.95 I paid (the non-Pro version is $34.95) but takes quite a while to complete a single video - it doesn't keep you from continuing to work like some of the Streamers do (Tunebite, Soundtaxi, etc.).

I have also used these Streamers and they are OK as far as stripping and conversion goes but can be a bit touchy at times...so far no issues with FU4WM and DaniuSoft and I have stripped and converted over 20 videos so far with zero errors and very clean results when played from my iPod to my TV.

Well that's all I've got. Good luck and I hope your frustrations are at least somewhat minimized by this information.
