Lightening strike
I figure I would add this as it must be I am the only one who has suffered a complete system loss due to a lightening strike. I have learned that the wired camera shielded cables are conductors as well during a lightening storm. The send the surge directly through the cables back to the DVR. My system ended up being a total loss as well as the monitor which also was firied. The DVR H.D. seems to be the unit in the DVR which burned out. I have gotten another DVR with more channels to be able to add more cameras as well but will not set the system up until I can learn a bit more about T Storm protection. As I had said in my previous post I do have in-line arestors but the instructions are rather vague about the proper way to come up with a ground connection.
My system during the strike was totally powered off but connected and also plugged into a Trip Lite battery backup system. If nothing else, it might be food for thought for others who might end up with the same problems sooner or later.
