is it legal to edit music and post it on youtube?

I want to know before I download an un-DRM program,is it legal for me to import the music that is now an mp3 file or whatever into Audacity, then edit the music in Audacity(like add bass boost and stuff) then post it on youtube?

Distributing copyrighted content even if modified is illegal.

Re: is it legal to edit music and post it on youtube?

If it is, youtube just deletes it, no harm no fowl. I uploaded a video there a month ago and they deleted it due to copyright reasons...my account is not active and I did not get sued or thrown in jail. While we don't recomend uploading copyrighted content...I think youtube is fairly 'safe'...I would just recomend putting in the description where the video is originally from and who originally did it.
