Hauppage HD PVR and playing xbox360 games in 1080p?

I just got an HD PVR and have a quick question. If I have my XBOX set to play in 1080p will I not be able to record the image on screen at all with my PVR? I have to play in 480p, 720p, or 1080i only?

If I get a 1080p capable TV, will I notice a big difference between playing in 1080p vs 1080i or 720p? I am wondering as I am planning on purchasing a new TV solely for gaming and recording using the PVR, and I don't want to spend extra for 1080p if I can't play with it and record using the PVR at the same time. Thanks for any help.

You can't play XBOX games in 1080p when using Hauppage HD PVR:

You should play in 720p or 480p.

If I get a TV thats native resolution is for 1080p and I play my xbox on 720p will it not look good? Just wondering as I've heard it is never ideal to play at anything but a monitors native resolution as the image will be stretched or something like that? I will also be watching TV and movies on this set so I would like 1080p for that, but not if it will hurt my video gameplay or recording.

Also, if 720p wouldn't look great on a 1080 native screen, would 1080i be any different?

If your HDTV supports 1080p, it will show 720p without any problem. Many people don't notice much difference between 1080p and 720p. At least the difference between 480p and 720p is much bigger than between 720p and 1080p.

If you want to watch 1080p movies from xbox360 while connecting it using component video passthrough of HD PVR, you won't be able to do that.

If you want to watch 1080p videos from your blu-ray player, network media player,... connected over HDMI (or even component video), I don't see any problems.

720p and 1080i give comparable quality. I prefer to use 720p, because I don't like interlaced videos with fast actions.
