How to get immediate visual snapshot of preferred video?

How to get immediate visual snapshot of preferred video?

I like watching movies on my iMac. When there is beautiful scene or remarkable image on the video, I'd take a snapshot and make it as my wallpaper. Some will be used as a thumbnail image for the video on my home NAS.

1. How to take a snapshot on Mac?
There is a built-in snapshot tool on my iMac, and it is easy to take a snapshot. When the video is playing or paused on Mac player, we can run the tool to take a snapshot, or just use the shortcut key: Command + Shift + 4. Move the mouse cursor to capture the video screen and save it. It is the quickest way to get immediate visual snapshot of preferred video when it is playing on Mac. The first thing we shall do is play video on Mac.

2. How to play videos on Mac?
There are many free players like QuickTime, VLC media player, MPlayer for Mac. QuickTime plays only a few formats, and VLC media player works with various videos. I have QuickTime player and VLC media player on my Mac.

For common videos like .mp4, .mov, .mp3, .avi, .wmv, .ogg, there are default players. The QuickTime compatible formats like .mp4, .mov, will be played on QuickTime, while VLC media player will player the formats like .wmv, .ogg.

For DVD movie, I also use VLC media player as preferred player. The movie playback on Mac is great. However, when it comes to Blu-ray DVD movies, I encounter some problems even though I have Blu-Ray disc drive. I got some Blu-ray DVDs from my friend with recorded Easter morning and his journey to Paris. VLC media player displays the images of the home-made Blu-ray DVDs well. I purchased some Blu-ray DVDs like District 9, Iron Man, but no way to play them.
