How to fix weird and loud static when I recording from Wave Out Mix with Audacity?

I use Audacity. I've checked my volume and recording controls, and there's only Wave Out Mix- not simply Wave Out. I'm trying to record what I hear through my speakers/headphones. When I start recording on the Wave Out Mix, everything goes haywire and I get my ears blown out by a weird statical noise.

I use Windows XP and a PC, if that helps at all. Help!

You can try to record with other direct sound recording software.

As for Audacity if you're trying to record the Wave-Out Mix inside Audacity then you've probably got a feedback loop. That would explain the weird noise and loud static that blows out your ears.

You can
1. Mute the record track output (i.e. the one that you're recording the Wave-Out Mix to) so it is not included into the Wave-Out Mix. There will be no feedback loop anymore.

or

2. Export everything as MP3, OGG or WAV.

Help recording guitar with Audacity?
My gear:
Marshall Mg100HDFX with emulated line out
1/4" to 3.5mm adapter
3.5mm cable, to connect from amp to laptop's Line in
Squier strat (doesn't matter)

My problem:
Whenever I am recording, even with setting the Line in volume level at like 20%, the sound is over recording and I am getting a buzzing sound (the blue bar is constantly maxed at frequency, not sure what this is called).

How can I fix it so that when I am recording I get a good sound (I know it's not going to be that great but now its 100% completely distorted.

Have you tried to reduce the volume?
Have you tried the tip from my post above ?
