Download/Capture/Record QT MP4 rtsp:// stream from ucsd.edu

In one of the posts you have told that you do the below to download .mp4 streams........
I would like to know "how you were able to set the User-Agent:QuickTimeWinlnet"???

lemme give you a small desc of my problem.

I would like to download .mp4 files from an rtsp like the one below

rtsp://tijuana.ucsd.edu/branson/physics130a/spring2003/040903_full.mp4

Now when I try to download the above file using "Nettransport" I get the below mentioned error message

9/18/2006 4:06:50 AM.437 User-Agent: RealMedia Player (HelixDNAClient)/10.0.0.0 (win32)
9/18/2006 4:06:51 AM.171 Content-Base: rtsp://tijuana.ucsd.edu:554/branson/physics130a/spring2003/040903_full.mp4/
9/18/2006 4:06:51 AM.234 Session not found

could you please tel me how you changed the User-Agent-QuickTimeWinInet.

also could you please checkout if you can download the video from the above URL. i need to find a way to download above type of files....kinda urgent.
To change user-agent in Nettransport:
1. Create new download. Enter URL in the "Add new download dialog".
2. In the same dialog window click "Other settings..." button.
3. Click on the download tab in the "Other settings" windows.
4. Find the user-agent group and select a user-agent from the drop-down box or enter a custom one like "QuickTimeWinlnet".

The problem here is not a user-agent. QT RTSP .MP4 streams are very hard to record. Only HiDownload since v.6.9 and MovRecorder can record them. Although even the recording ability of these programs for such streams is very limited ATM.

If you can't record with a stream recorder, you may use a Screen video capture software

Hello,

Thankyou for replying.....

I have tried "hidownload 6.9" and "movrecorder 1.3" to record the stream from

rtsp://tijuana.ucsd.edu/branson/physics130a/spring2003/040903_full.mp4

the above url gives you a very good quality (high bandwidth) stream.....hidownload recors only audio (but not the video) fairly decently......whereas movrecorder records both audio and video shabbily.......the file thus recorded by movrecorder is totally garbled beyong recognition........and no amount of transcoding is able to fix the file........even screencapture s/w may not be able to help me in this regard.

may be since you are in the west closer to the source recording of the stream would be far better....could you please give it a shot?

Also i have tired VLC and it records the 1st minute of video properly then disconnects (i couldn't make out anything from the logs)......mplayer also doesn't help much either.........if you know of anything else (like net transport for realmedia) please let me know....I desperately want a local copy of those files (online viewing is poor as audio breaks down)....

BTW any idea about Mpeg4ip????
I am waiting anxiously for your expert help and suggestions....

Thanks and regards
Srivatsa

In my experience VLC and MPlayer are very unreliable as stream recorders.
MovRecorder and HiDownload are not very good at rtsp:// .mp4 streams. These streams are hard to record and the developers have been trying to solve the problem.

Hello,

I actually wrote to streaming star people regarding the problems about a week ago they haven't replied back....but anyidea why hidownload is able to record only the audio not video?

I tried to record the low bandwidth files using mov recorder...it is atleast watchable but the problem is the audio just cuts off after a few minutes of play.......i am aware that this problem can be fixed by transcoding...but the problem is every transcoder that I tried gives up with an error (one transcoder movkit gave a floating point overflow error) after few minutes into the process.........is there sumthing i can do about this? do you like to suggest any "reliable transcoder" for mp4/mov streams...

well I guess I'll have to forget recording this very useful files for sumtime.....i wonder why even though MPEG4 being there for sometime now, the community is taking so long to overcome the problem.....

Thankyou
regards

sorry everyone for delay. We are working hard the flash video streaming(RTMP Protocol) and improving on quicktime RTSP streaming, we wish the next version is better,

are you aware of any breakthrough made in Hidownload to download the mp4 over rtsp streams based on the total size of the file???

thankyou
