How do I get FLV Recorder to work?

I chose FLV Recorder because I use Windows 98SE and it's supposed to be compatible with it. I have WinPCap installed and working (URL Snooper works fine) and I installed the latest version of FLV Recorder.

When I go to the config and click the button to list adapters, my network card is shown, but the IP address and Netmask are both listed as 0.0.0.0. I select it anyway, click Ok, click the start button, go to YouTube and play a video. Nothing ever shows up in FLV Recorder. I tried manually editing the INI file to add the IP address and Subnet Mask obtained from IPConfig, but it still doesn't work.

If I try to add an URL manually, it appears in the list for a split second, then vanishes.

What am I doing wrong?

What kind of Network adapter do you have? Is it wireless?

What version of WinPCap do you have? Is it the same that comes with FLV Recorder?

It's a NetGear FA311/312 PCI Adapter card. The ethernet cable is connected directly from the card to my DSL modem, which is connected directly to my phone line (through a DSL filter). No wireless at any point.

Here's a screenshot of what I get;

No. FLV Recorder includes a version of WinPCap that won't work under Windows 98. I'm using 3.1, which is the last stable version to support 98.

That must be the problem. I'm not sure you can do anything without getting WinXP. If your PC is too slow for it, you might try Win2k instead.

Then why isn't this limitation listed on their web site? There are no system requirements that I could find anywhere on the site. Nor do they even list the fact that it requires WinPCap to function, let alone needing a particular version of it. Every Sharware hosting site lists FLV Recorder as being compatible with 98, with no special requirements listed.

I know companies aren't going to support 98 forever (although it would be nice), but is it asking too much that they actually put accurate system requirements on their web site?

Hopefully support staff of StreamingStar will eventually read this thread and reply. This time I have problems to reach them.

FLV Recorder similar to WM Recorder in the PRO mode so I like it more. But I recommend Replay Media Catcher instead (unfortunately it doesn't support Win 9x). Now you know why I do that...

Re: How do I get FLV Recorder to work?

It's been a couple months since I last posted in this thread and I see there's still no new replies.

I emailed the company again just now.

As I stated in my message to them; Even if FLV Recorder is unable to work with the version of WinPCap I have, and/or it's unable to figure out my network connection to sniff packets, that shouldn't have any effect on whether or not it can download from an URL I enter manually. Unfortunately, it won't download from a manually entered URL either.
