Creating bootable flash drive with Wininternals ERD Commander for resetting passwordsI've downloaded an ISO image with Wininternals ERD Commander 2009.
It contained 3 versions: - ERD Commander 5.0 for Windows XP / Windows 2003 (erd50.iso) - ERD Commander 6.0 for Windows Vista / Windows 2008 (erd60.iso) - ERD Commander 6.5 for Windows 7 / Windows 2008 RC2 (erd65.iso) Then I wanted to make a bootable flash drive with it. Note that you can burn an ISO image to a CD instead. I tried several methods of creating bootable flash drives: 1. I tried to create a bootable flash drive with Unebootin. The process was successful, but didn't manage to boot with it. 2. I tried to use WinToFlash 0.7 beta, but it didn't accept my ISO image as well as its contents. 3. Then I used WinSetupFromUSB 1.0 beta7: a. Selected my flash drive b. Hit the RMprepUSB button. c. Selected WinPE, Fat 16, Boot as HDD and then hit the "Prepare drive button". d. Hit "Instal gtub4dos" e. Installed Daemon Tools Lite and mounted the ISO image with Wininternals ERD commander. f. Copied the contents of the ISO image onto my flash drive. p.s. Note sure whether step c is needed or not, but it worked for me. |

Re: Creating bootable flash drive with Wininternals ERD Commander for resetting passwThen I booted from my flash drive. Since I needed to reset passwords in Windows XP, I selected the "ERD Commander 5.0 for Windows XP / Windows 2003 (erd50.iso)" option at boot.
After booting: 1. Select the operating system for which you want to reset passwords (if you have multiple versions of Windows installed) 2. Hit Start -> System Tools -> Locksmith 3. Reset passwords 4. Reboot. |
