Convert TOD files to MPEG for dvd playersHELP!!!
I just bought this High Definition camcorder and am confused as to the definition of these file names. The camera only produces TOC files which I understand is JVC's own brand of software. I need to make dvd's to play in our home dvd player and share with family but I cannot create a disc using their TOC files. I'm told that I need to convert them to either AVI or MPEG - both of which can be burned onto a DVD-R disc and played in any commercial dvd player. The software that came with the camera seems to be able to convert to AVI but I notice a drop in quality and AVI as I understand it is not the final product to be on a dvd. Here are my questions: can both AVI files and MPEG files be easily burned to a DVD-R or DVD+R disc and played in any dvd regular player? Can anyone recommend either free of relatively inexpensive software that will automatically convert these TOD files into something that can be burned on any DVD disc without losing quality? I am using a Dell PC with Windows XP Professional. Thanks. Fred |

Re: Convert TOD files to MPEG for dvd playersWill your dvd player support avi? Also, what type of mpeg, mpeg-1, 2, or 4? Many dvd players support mpeg2 and/or mpeg4, but you would want to check to see if your dvd player(s) would support that file type. What you MIGHT want to do, is check out our list of audio/video converters and try a few out. I don't know any off top of my head that work with the TOC file type unfortunately.

Re: Convert TOD files to MPEG for dvd playersNow I'm really confused! So what format should these files be converted to to play in any home dvd player then? What is the most popular?

Re: Convert TOD files to MPEG for dvd playersAll DVD players can play DVD-Video discs. They have MPEG-2 video and special structure of files. Some older DVD players may not support recordable disc such as DVD-R, DVD+R or rewritable discs like DVD+RW, DVD-RW.
Some newer players also support other formats. At least MPEG-4 is widely supported. However there are lots of restrictions that your player may have for MPEG-4 videos. You should read the manual of your DVD player to learn about them. AVS Video Converter can convert TOD and MOD files to MPEG-2 and DVD. |

Re: Convert TOD files to MPEG for dvd playersmost universal dvd players work with familiar formats like .WMV (windows basic format). If you find the properties of the movie, and find it's format, you can find a video convertor on the internet, and convert it. It might take a while 2 convert, but you should end up with the right format.
