How to connect DVR via internet when using Comcast cable Internet access?

I have read this entire thread and cannot believe my problem has not come up. My iSP is Comcast. The internet connection goes into their modem which has ethernet ports on it. I have admin access to it. I then have my own router plugged into one of the ethernet ports. I have my DVR configured to work thru my local router just fine, however, how do I configure the cable modem to allow remote internet access and send that to the DVR thru my router? I have all the IP addresses involved (Internet IP, modem to router and router to DVR).

I gave up. I connected the DVR directly into the Comcast modem and made a few optiion changes in it. I am now connected.

Re: How to connect DVR via internet when using Comcast cable Internet access?

Hi,
Can you please share, what you did to fix the issue. Like you, I have DVR behind Comcast router. I don't want to buy static IP so I am struggling to work with dynamic IP. The DVR works fine in the local network, but when I try to access it in the Internet, the WAN IP just times out. I tried everything from port forwarding, DMZ setup, NAT but no success. I am totally frustrated at this point.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mayur

Hi, Moder routers have the DNS setting available , unfortuanally www.dyndns.com is not free anymore. It will cost $20 a year unless you try to get another provider.
the router will log in using your credentials for the account you created at dyndns and update your IP link to the HOSTNAME you created: mydvr.dyndns.com
mydvr.dyndns.com = 50.20.3.65 example your address.

Before this works , you most have the dvr online meaning , all ports have to be open and you could connect to it using your external Ip address.

The router that Comcast provide might have limitation, and will be ideal to have that under bringe mode and let a new router handle the communication, hopefully you don't have a NETOPIA router that are a headache to open ports on.
