Changing file associations in Ubuntu 9.10 is so easy, but not obvious after using Windows. In Windows you can right-click on the file ans select "Open with Other Application…" then after choosing an application you can mark the checkbox to always open files of this type with this application.
How to change file associations in Ubuntu 9.10 - Right-click on a file of the type you wish to set a default application to open it with
- Select Properties
- Select the Open With tab (Now everything is obvious, isn't it? )
- Select the application you want associated with that file-type
- Click OK
