You may try freeware ImgBurn. It is a great software developed by the same guy who made DVD Decrypter. It can burn CD, DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs.

The only problem is that your copy righting problem is probably related not to Windows Media Player, but to DRM-protected WMA files.

p.s. I do like Nero

Some other programs to try:
  • CDBurner XP - freeware CD, DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD burning application. Nero-style software, but not as bloated as Nero.
  • InfraRecorder - freeware CD, DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD burning application. InfraRecorder has been part of the Portable Apps suite for a long time. As it is a portable application, you can use it on any PC from your flash drive.
  • NCH ExpressBurn - freeware CD, DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD application

There are also many other freeware burning applications, including BurnAware, Burn CDCC, StarBurn, so Nero and Roxio are not the only options

Mac users may try Mac DVD Burner.

If you legally purchased (not rented) DRM protected WMA files and have valid licences to play them, you can remove DRM protection. See the following links for more:
unDRM.info: DRM removal software
Forum: Removing copy-protection (like DRM, AACS)

If you ripped your CDs to DRM-protected WMA files with Windows Media Player, it is probably better to re-rip your Audio CDs.
