best low cost equipment and software for recording from internet radio

I am a big fan of both the BBC4 and BBC7 programs. I would like to record them for listening while at work. I have tried recording them in both windows player and directly to a digital recorder. Play back however has been extremely garbled. Any suggestion?

I do not need stereo recording. All suggestions have to be compatible with the BBC IPlayer. If it is just a matter of software I have to be able to control start and stop as I can only send 25 mb as an attachment
