BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management: HowTo remove DRM and make files offline friendlyI've got DRM problem with BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management (FMRMS). I watch my videos on the laptop on the train. It's been easy up until the BBC started using Adobe rights management (FMRMS) encryption on their mp4 tv on demand downloads. No more FairUse4WM!
Is there any way of making the files, um, more "offline" friendly? Thanks! |

Re: BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management: HowTo remove DRM and make files offline frieI'm having trouble since having to up grade and download the latest BBC iplayer desktop, problem I have is using FairUse4WM, when I navigate to the files in the repository folder, FairUse4wm can not find any WMV because the BBC have changed The downloaded content to a '.mp4' container and the video is h246, sadly it is also protected by DRM and only playable via the BBC iPlayer Desktop software.
My question is how can we now remove the DRM to view any time when we can't find the WMV files needs to remove the DRM? Last edited by just asking : 04-23-2009 at 09:14 AM. |

Re: BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management: HowTo remove DRM and make files offline frieBBC iPlayer TV programs are available to play in the UK only.
BBC iPlayer used to offer DRM-protected Windows Media .WMV files. Lossless FairUse4WM and drmdbg+freeme2 can remove DRM protection from Windows Media videos. Also there are several lossy DRM removal software that can re-record Windows Media .WMV videos from Windows Media Player. They record video from screen so you may prefer to use more universal screen video capture software to re-record BBC iPlayer videos. I'm not sure whether DRM removal software that can strip DRM protection from iTunes video files can remove DRM protection from BBC iPlayer .MP4 files or not. But I repeat that you can always re-record BBC iPlayer videos using screen video capture software, that can record videos from Windows Media Player, Real Player, QuickTime player, BBC iPlayer (WMV, MP4 or any other format),... You can also try BBC iPlayer downloader: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer BBC iPlayer Downloader allows to download fewer videos than BBC iPlayer, but at least you won't need to re-record some of the videos from BBC with screen video capture software. |

Re: BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management: HowTo remove DRM and make files offline frieI found this site after downloading Formula1 highlights from the BBC and then hoping to play the file on my XBox360 in the lounge on the big TV.
I'm not sure if it is the same for all the BBC shows, but I can download a mp4 file that only seems to play in the BBC iPlayer. There are also options to download a wmv file. They contain DRM unfortunately. And even though WMV = Microsoft, DRM = Microsoft and XBox360 = Microsoft, I'm not aware of how I can get it to play on the XBox360. Grrrr. I could possibly try streaming from my notebook to the XBox360 but haven't tried that yet. I note that the BBC iPlayer can be downloaded for Playstation3 or Wii but not XBox360. Double Grrrr. Anyway I download the wmv version and then use the Daniusoft Digital Media Converter to create a non-DRM WMV file. I can then pop it on a USB stick and play it on the XBox360. |

There are better DRM removal programs than Daniusoft Digital Media Converter. But I recommend to re-record BBC iPlayer videos with screen video capture software. Such programs can record any video from your screen, so it doesn't really matter what format BBC iPlayer uses (Windows Media .WMV, Flash Video .MP4 or any other video format) |

Not a spam message! I initially tried Soundtaxi and Tunebite but was having trouble getting them working well on my notebook. Scanned through some forums and someone suggested DRM removal programs than DDMC had worked well for them. But it is a very basic product functionality-wise. Maybe I should have persisted with the other two... Didn't think of trying a screen capture program. I did try streaming from Windows Media Player over WiFi to the xbox360 and that works quite well. |

Also the original question was about DRM-protected MP4 files, but the answer was about WMV files. There was no any problem removing DRM protection from WMV files using freeware lossless DRM removal software, which works faster than Soundtaxi, Tunebite or DDMC, besides the quality doesn't degrade since there is no re-recording. Quote:
However screen capture program can solve the problem of removing DRM protection from videos for most users, because one doesn't get many advantages from Soundtaxi, Tunebite,... |

Re: BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management: HowTo remove DRM and make files offline frieabout: BBC iPlayer Adobe Rights Management (FMRMS) encrypted .mp4 HD videos
1. There is no solution for those videos. Downloaded videos can be played only with Adobe Air Player. 2. Screen capture programs cannot solve the problem because Adobe Air hides the video when you try to screen capture and all you capture will be a black screen with audio. Note: The same screen capture problem exist with BBC iPlayer .wmv DRM videos as the videos can be played only with WMP and it hides the video when you try to screen capture. 3. BBC iPlayer videos can be screen captured only online but there must be enough bandwith to provide smooth streaming and UK residence, of course (or UK IP). Thanks. |

Haven't tried to record videos played by Adobe Air yet. But most probably you can disable Video Acceleration and record without any problems. |

Re: BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management: HowTo remove DRM and make files offline frieYes, the Video Acceleration.
Video Acceleration off is not an option for me because of the quality. Is that a video with horizontal lines visible ? That is a crap not to think of at all. There are some players which do not hide accelerated videos. Thus: DivX Player does not hide the vodeo. Real Player does not hide the video. And I have some very good sceen captures from those players. But Windows Media Player is well for nothing but is the only player which can play DRM videos. BBC iPlayer .mp4 HD videos are not DRM protected, they are encrypted and only Adobe Air knows how to decrypt and play them. Thanks. |
