Hi I also have a Avtech 760DVR. If you reset the machine to factory conditions first. Then enter 0000 as password you shouldf access dvr.

Re: avtech 760 4 ch dvr: help to get password to unlock

I am having a problem accessing the DVR via the video server e software. It's not recognizing the default username and password of "admin".

My other question is.... Does it have to be connected on the network in order to work? In other words, I'm having some IP address issues with the DVR and my Internet connection. Does all this have to be working in order for password to be recognized? I tried connecting to a Linksys router and I can't get anything at all to work. I think it's a router issue.

One last question.... The 760 uses MPEG4 compression. Would the new standard of H.264 have a noticeable difference over MPEG4. Is the 760 upgradeable to this standard?

If anyone has any assistance, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Jim

Usually devices allow you to reset the password.

I've never compared the quality of these DVRs.

But there are lots of comparisons of DVDRips that were made with x264 (MPEG4 AVC a.k.a. h.264 codec) and xvid (MPEG-4 codec). I don't really see any big difference between the two, but many people do. IMHO this is very subjective.

If you have the DVR hooked up to a router, and you are bringing up Video Server E on your computer then you should be putting in the Password, and it should connect to the DVR. If it is not connecting with Admin / Admin then you are putting in the wrong IP address, or you have the wrong port number.

If I had to fix it for you, then I would go to your DVR (assuming you have a monitor/TV hooded up to it for viewing the menus),
Menu
Advance
Networking

I would look at the IP address, and port, and I would write this down as this will give me the correct information that I would need to insert in to Video Server E.

You may have the wrong gateway, and the router is not letting your DVR talk to your LAN.

If the IP address is correct, and your gateway is correct then you should be able to connect to your DVR.

To verify router issue then put the ip address of the DVR in to your browser, and see if you connect this way. If you can connect then it may be a password issue.

Question?
What comes up when you log in to Video Server E? Do you get an error message? What does it say?

The AVC760S are not upgradeable to H.264 with a firmware upgrade.

Avtech does have an H.264 version 4 channel DVR if you have to have H.264.

There are two possible default logons

admin with '0000' or 'admin'
guest with '1111'

You can reset the box without access to the menu by shorting out a specific jumper before powerup, and powering up a second time without the jumper. This *does* invalidate the warrenty!!

Username "admin"
password "admin"

0000 refers to front panel entry. The ENTER button is the 0 button. You would press enter 4 times to gain entry to the menu.

Take care,
