AUD-2362: possible HDCP stripper?

Hi,

Has anyone tried the "Cables Unlimited Pro A/V Series DVI and Digital Audio to HDMI (AUD-2362)". It's available on Amazon.
It is supposed to strip the HDCP.

1/ This guy uses it to record his PS3 gameplay:

His setup is:

"PS3" ==> "HDMI to DVI-cable" + "optical audio cable" ==> "AUD-2362" ==> "HDMI cable" ==> "Black Magic Intensity Pro"

2/ HDFury reports it's a HDCP stripper on its blog:

3/ According the Amazon reviews, it does remove HDCP:

Any thoughts on whether this is true? Seems to be unbelievable...

I have tried this DVI & S/PDIF Digital Coax/Optical Toslink Audio to HDMI Converter and have had no problems. Very similar to the one mentioned in this post.

I think I know what's going on with the PS3.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_Constraint_Token , when the PS3 is unable to create a secure connection between the output device and itself (so no HDCP possible), it reduces it's content to 540p video.

If someone could confirm this by recording something of the PS3 or just try it with some other HDMI-output like a Blu Ray player or a Cable Tv box....

I have recorded from PS3 using that converter. I tried using it with out the converter and I would get aHDCP error message from the software that came with my HD Avermedia CaptureCard. Somehow in the conversion it strips this HDCP restriction. Hope this helps

I would like to know if it works with other devices than the PS3. For example a cable/satellite set-up box...

Make sure you test it without the converter too to check if it's encrypted with HDCP.

I tested it without the converter and it did pop up a HDCP error message. I will post up the video link tonight or by tomorrow night.
