au.tv.yahoo.com: Suggestion for stream downloading from Yahoo TV Australia(rtmp .flv)

I have tried many methods to download the stream from
Code:
http://au.tv.yahoo.com
but no luck so far. I am able to download the 7,13 Mb but at that point downloading of the video stops and stays there (the complete file should have aprox. over 29 mb)

This is the link:
Code:
http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunday-night/video/-/watch/13047668/
The first video is commercial (that video is not important although I am able to download it just fine).

The second video is feature itself...but as I said I am only able to get 7,13 Mb unfortunately on my HDD

Any suggestions please?

FAQ: How to record/download/capture/save Adobe Flash .FLV video RTMP stream from embedded player

I tried to download rtmp:// .flv video stream from
Code:
http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunday-night/video/-/watch/13047668/
with Replay Media Catcher. It downloaded a 57MB file (00:13:44).

What RTMP Flash stream recorders were you having problems with?

Wow...
Well I have tried at work but there is a proxy internet access altough I was able to make many capturing so far but this was hard for some reason.

This was my process:
  1. Enabled Sniffer with NetTransport
  2. Net transport Sniffer reported RTMP link
  3. I have copied that RTMP link from SNIFFER and pasted to NET TRANSPORT Download section
  4. But for that video every time download always stops at 7,13 mb and it will not go further unfortunately

I am guessing probably the problem could be maybe with limited proxy access. Unfortunately currently my access at home is with Dial up so I could not activate Url snooper at home

Is there a possibility to upload for me that video so I could make clean download from my office work later? If not I could maybe try to install Replay Media Catcher at home but I am not sure what results I will get over dial up.

Anyway what ever the answer will be, thank you so so much for help so far.

I was able to download only 7.16MB with NetTransport. I've notified the developer about the problem.

You don't really need to copy the URL from the URL Sniffer of Net Transport. You may click the "Download..." button instead.

I suggest you to try freeware Orbit Downloader or Grab Pro at work. Can you install it there?

Yes I can install. Will try to do it. I was using Net Transport because it has the option for Proxy settings inside Options. I will download all 3 - RMediaCathcer, Orbit and Grab and I will try to see can I make them work over proxy.

Thanks once again. Great about Net Transport comment towards the developer.

Best wishes.

Orbit Downloader comes with Grab Pro. Orbit can use the default proxy of your Internet Explorer.

Recommendation of the developer of NetTransport:
Quote:
This needs some luck.

1.Use the inbuilt sniffer to get the real URL.
2.The first one is ad, the second one is the correct that you want to get.
3.When second url appears, please close IE right now.
4.Then download it by 1 connection.

The link may be available after a while, so please don't let your network offline. :-)
If this case happens, please repeat 1-3, then use the new URL to replace the old of the current task.
I always try to download media streams using one thread only. And I did stopped the player when Net Transport started downloading. I did used the built-in URL Sniffer. It didn't help me to download the stream

Yes I have also tried that before I run out of the options. In one of the earlier tests I closed immediately IE window. I think that developer unfortunately don't understand that the file is donwloaded partialy but download itself starts without a problem.

About installation. Unfortunately I was not able to download Orbit after all on the proxy computer although I do have administrator right. There are some problems with the IE settings.

Replay Media Catcher also can't sniff as it doesn't have proxy option.

So for now I will try to change the tactics. I know one Internet Caffee where I will be able to install software so I will try there to install Orbit and Replay and Media Catcher and try again.

Thanks for all the comments so much.

Ok, this is the final result. Internet Caffe experiment also didn't produce results so at the end I decided to try to download with Replay Media Catcher over dial-up at home.

After arround 90 minutes I was able to download the file named:

83930012_DD30828A.flv

It is complete video (13,44 minutes) but my size of the file is different. It is 27,4 Mb. I am confused because at your side it is 57 mb. I have just watched the file and everything is ok nothing is missing.

What could be the reasons for different sizes? Does that mean that video is streamed in different qualities? If that is the case how to get the better quality of 57 mb?

Best Wishes

I suppose they offer videos with different bit-rate and/or video resolution depending on your connection.

How to get better quality videos? Usually the URLs used for streams with different bit-rates are different, so you can find the stream URL and download it with software that allows to add RTMP URLs such as Orbit Downloader, rtmpdump. The problem is that some stream URLs have timestamps, so they expire pretty quickly.

I would recommend to play with proxy settings of Orbit Downloader first and may be to try Grab Pro. It is much easier. Orbit is not the best RTMP downloader, but it can download many streams.
